The Lynhall Wedding:: Dan and Jody

Within the first two weeks of meeting Dan, Jody’s own fairy tale was made.  Dan surprised Jody with a surprise trip to visit him in Philadelphia.  Each and every detail from the flight to the places they went to dinner was attended to.  It was there Jody fell in love with Dan.

Only 43 days later, the couple was engaged.  Both knew what they were looking for and they had found it.  Jody and Dan love adventures and both agree that life is too short to not surprise one another and not let life pass them by.

The couple were wed at the beautiful and intimate St. Stephan’s Episcopal Church in Edina.  Dan had been attending there and had made it his home church and both he and Jody loved the intimate setting that only close family was invited to.  Jody’s Tory Burch shoes were a perfect accent to her Tadashi Shoji wedding gown. Both Dan and Jody’s rings were hand crafted by different designers.  Jody’s engagement ring was hand crafted and is a one of a kind ring designed by Denise Roberge.  Dan’s is from David Yurman Scherezada.Donato’s Floral in Maple grove put together the bouquet of rose and white blooms for Jody and a white rose for Dan’s boutonniere.Jody did her own make up for the day while Simonson’s did a loose updo for her.Jody purchased her veil and head piece from Anthropologie and it was a perfect touch for their October wedding day.The grounds of St. Stephen’s are truly beautiful.  Yellow trees and a beautiful brook behind the church made for a great location for photos.Jody and Dan invited friends and other family embers to their reception at the Lynhall in Minneapolis. The Menu ranged from butternut squash soup to roasted chicken and spiced cous cous to other autumn based dishes.Their spiced apple cinnamon cake was beautiful and created just for them by bakers at the Lynhall. What a perfect day to spend with this amazing couple. Jody and Dan, I wish you many years of love and many, many adventures together!Vendors for the day included:: Ceremony:: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church //Reception:: The Lynhall // Hair:: Simonsons //  Florist:: Donoto’s Floral // Wedding Dress:: Tadashi Shoji from Bloomingdale’s// Rings:: Jody’s-Hand designed by Denise Roberge Dan’s David Yurman Scherezada // Baker:: The Lynhall // Stationary:: Minted// Men’s Designer:: Ralph Lauren from Macy’s // Veil and hairpiece:: Anthropologie // Earrings:: Borrowed from Jody’s best friend //

Bridesmaids… Your best ally on a wedding day

Want to find your best ally as a photographer on a wedding day?  Look no further than to the left and the right of the bride!  Yes, a bridesmaid can be your best tool, best friend and best help on the day of a wedding.Knowing the bride herself, bridesmaids can help the bride feel more relaxed and alive on her wedding day. They are the forerunners that bring the fun and calm to the start of a crazy, fun wedding day.Bridesmaids also generally know the names of the attendants and can help wrangle everyone (including those runaway flower girls) into one location for photos.
They bring the fun, and the tears, and all the emotions in between, for the photos. I will generally have the bridesmaids all “fake laugh” when they are with the bride and I can’t tell you how many times this brings true, genuine laughter which is exactly what I am looking for in some of these photos!Bridesmaids can be amazing tools to a wedding day, not only to the bride but to me, the photographer!  They are pretty amazing and I love working with them!

      Hazeltine Wedding:: Sara and Dave

Their mutual respect for work ethic and caring for those around them drew them together, but their love of family, new jobs, health issues, family events and doing life together has kept Sara and Dave together. He keeps her laughing and she keeps him grounded.

After being together for a few years, Sara and Dave decided to do dinner with both sides of their family.  As dinner was being served, Sara looked over to Dave to find that his plate was still full and he wasn’t eating.  Thinking this odd, Sara continued to watch him until he stood up and called for everyone’s attention. Then and there Dave stood up in front of the 20+ people that were there and talked about the importance of family, staying together, and supporting one another.  Everyone saw what was coming and the tears began to flow. Dave reached for Sara’s hand and asked her to stand with everyone. He got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

Their late October wedding could have not been more perfect.  One of the last nice days of the fall; 60 degrees, red leaves on the trees and wonderful family and friends celebrated with them.  We utilized the beautiful property of Hazeltine National Golf course in Chaska, MN for a beautiful fall backdrop.Sara wore a gorgeous satin dress from Bridal Aisle while the bridesmaids wore burgundy lace dresses from David’s Bridal with gold shawls to stay warm. Dave and his groomsmen wore navy suits with burgundy ties from Savvi FormalWear.Jenni From Simply State Elegance created the most beautiful fall bouquets to compliment the dresses and brought in a gold ribbon to tie it all together.I also loved the idea that Sara and all her friends have a rotating veil that many of them have used in their weddings, and now it was Sara’s turn!Robbie Weides, Dave’s cousin, created a custom stationary package for Sara and Dave that represented the day beautifully. The audience was in tears as Sara’s father walked her down the aisle, and her mother, who has been diagnosed with a rapid case of Parkinson’s Disease, beamed as she recognized her daughter coming down to which Sara gave a big hug before standing to meet Dave.Because the couple loves doughnuts, they put together a spread of doughnuts and sweets out from HyVee Bakery for guests to enjoy.

Friends and family danced the night away while Eric of Instant Request brought in the music and Allie Rae Productions captured the entire day on video. How blessed I was to spend the day with this KIND, COMPASSIONATE and LOVING couple.  Words cannot express how welcomed I was by family and friends the entire day. I wish you both many, many blessings as you move into married life together!

Minneapolis Courthouse Wedding:: Jessica and Daryl

They had worked together for years and had been good friends connecting over their love of music, wine and work, so it wasn’t a big surprise to friends and family when Daryl and Jess began dating.  Both are from the mid-west, but reside in California for the time being.  Neither wanted a big wedding, so they settled on having a small courthouse wedding in Minneapolis (where Jess is from) with her sister and her family.  So in the afternoon on a Tuesday in a small courtroom Jess and Daryl committed themselves to one another.  It was a sweet and beautiful day to be a part of.A courthouse wedding has been on my bucket list of places to photograph for years, so when Jess contacted me, I was thrilled. After the ceremony, we wandered the full streets of Minneapolis for some city scapes of both Jess and Daryl together and alone.  It was a sweet day and I was honored to be a part of it.

Rochester Fairgrounds Wedding:: Katie and Matt

They met at John Adams Middle School in 6th grade and were among the same class of students that shuffled from classroom to classroom in a heard to each different subject, but soon bonded over their shared interests of soccer, band and church.  Katie and Matt were friends and shared a mutual respect for one another, and even went to their senior prom together, but never dated throughout high school or even college.  It wasn’t until they had both graduated and began working in their professions that they began to pursue one another.

After dating and knowing that marriage was in sight, Matt suggested a camping trip up to the North Shore of Minnesota over Memorial Day weekend. Because Katie had never been up to this part of Minnesota, the two stopped the night before at Gooseberry Falls to see the sun go down.  Matt suggested the next morning they wake up to see the sunrise and Katie was game.

At 4;30 the next morning, with blanket in one hand and a camera in the other, Matt was all smiles as they set out.  Wanting to capture the beauty of the occasion, Matt set up the camera on a picnic table and had Katie stand up straight for “photo purposes.” As she turned around to face the camera, Matt was on one knee proposing! Bewildered because they were in the process of designing her engagement ring which was nowhere near finished, Matt held out beautiful rosewood ring for her to accept while they waited for her other ring to be completed!

Their October wedding day at the Rochester Fairgrounds was one for my book.  Katie and Matt wanted each guest to feel truly greeted and a part of their wedding day and greeted each guest as the entered the ceremony.  Details of Katie and Matt were strung throughout the entire day making their day beautiful and unique to them.

Katie’s Wilderly Bride wedding dress purchased from Mestads Bridal was the perfect earthy look for her wedding day.

Katie’s wedding ring was handcrafted for her finger and the rosewood ring that Matt proposed with was used as her wedding ring!Katie’s color palette of earth tones was seen throughout the entire day from the bouquets, to her shoes she wore, to the make up she wore for the day.  Everything was incredablly natural and beautiful.Katie attended college in Tennessee and while she was there, she worked on a flower farm. One of the sweetest and most memorable parts of the day was her bouquet.  The florist that she worked or brought up flowers in her carry on direct from TN to put in Katie’s bouquet. Katie hand designed her bouquet with flowers from TN as well as foliage from her the home she grew up in, and around the surrounding area that were significant to both her and Matt. The bridesmaids all picked out their own dress in the color of Katie’s choice from Azazie.
The groomsmen all wore shades of blue with floral ties from Kohls.Rochester Fairgrounds was a perfect place to have both their ceremony and reception.  The ceremony took place upstairs while downstirs guest were able to enjoy drinks and snacks while they finished waiting for Katie and Matt as they finished photos.
For their stationary, Katie and Matt commissioned a Minneapolis artist to create an illustration of the both of them and describe their engagement on the North Shore.
During the ceremony a poet read the couples favorite poem and handbells were rung to a favorite song of the couples. The limestone, unique to this part of Minnesota, was one of the reasons Katie and Matt chose the fairgrounds for their ceremony and reception. It was only necessary that we use it for a photo!Unique to the fairgrounds is the water tower. Of course capturing it on this brisk sunny day was also necessary!Coffee, teas, sodas, and a variety of popcorn (all of the couples’s favorites) were part of the cocktail hour.During the reception, Katie and Matt decided to do a slideshow, but sang to one another during the time it was shown.Katie, also a Zumba instructor, surprised guests halfway through the dance by busting out a lesson. All guests, including her grandmother, participated!Matt and Katie, you are incredible people that I was blessed to photograph. Thank you for allowing me to be one of the people you included in your day. I am honored and so thankful to have been there to document it for you.Vendors for the day included:: Ceremony and Reception:: Rochester Fair Grounds// Hair:: Double Take Salon // Make-up:: Byron//  Florist:: Linda Doan of Aunt Willies Wildflowers// Wedding Dress:: Wilderly Bride from Mestad’s// Bridesmaids Dresses:: Azazie //Rings:: Patterson Diamond Center and Rogers and Hollands/ DJ:: Chris Williams from Beyond Class DJ// Baker:: Lori from Omars Kitchen Catering // Stationary:: Artist from Minneapolis// Men’s Designer:: Kohl’s // Second Shooter:: Lily Watkins//
