Why I meet and reach out to other vendors

As a business, it is easy to meet and connect with my clients.  I actually require it either over a FaceTime or Zoom meeting or in person of all my clients because I want to make sure that we are a good fit for one another for the wedding day.  I want to really get to know their personalities as a couple, as well as for them to get to know me as a photographer and a person.  I don’t want any surprises to come for my clients in what they are receiving from me or what I deliver.  It makes sense.

But there are other people that I also meet with on a regular basis, and that is the other vendors that are working in the wedding industry.  Not only other florists, event planners and bands, but other photographers. This not only brings community to the industry, but also allows me to personally meet people I want to refer!

I have loved getting to know some incredible people in the industry through a few different networking events, meetings for coffee and Chipolte, and online meetings. Clubhouse has also been a game changer for me. I am loving this app and the way I am able to hear and interact with everyday people from all over the world doing the same thing I am doing!

If you are a vendor and we haven’t yet connected, please reach out.I would love to meet you in person or online!!

    Why I love Online meetings

Technology is a beautiful thing, and I love using it in business.  If this last year has taught me anything, it’s that online meetings are just as productive as in person meetings. One thing I am loving a lot these days are online meetings and here are 3 reasons why!

    1. It’s a time saver.  As much as I love meeting client in person and seeing right in front of me how a couple interacts, I also LOVE the ease and comfort of ducking into my office, closing the door and jumping on a call. No drive time required for anyone, and let’s face it, sometimes it is just hard to find time in our busy lives to put a meeting on the calendar and then GET there!
    2. I can connect with couples all over the world.  This past month alone, I scheduled meeting times with clients in Texas, Chicago and DC, and just a few hours away.  Never before in history have we been able to do this, and I think its pretty amazing.
    3. Sweats and leggings are ok.  Typically when I am headed out to a meeting, I do dress in work attire, but when I’m sitting at home, there is the comfort and ease of pulling on a nice shirt and just keeping my leggings on!

Don’t get me wrong, I am still a huge advocate for in person meetings, and if you are in the Cities, I’d love to take you out for coffee, but there are those times its not always an option. So weather a Skype meeting, FaceTime meeting, Zoom or Messenger meeting, I am all for them! Hope to connect with you soon!

      My Favorite Wedding Blogs

Planning a wedding? Looking for inspiration? Needing fresh ideas?

Look no further! Let me introduce you to some of my all time favorite blogs that do all of the above!

      Style Me Pretty

A year or so ago there was talk of Style Me Pretty, a classic wedding blog inspired by the film wedding photographer Jose Villa, closing up shop. Luckly for all brides, and those of us that love weddings (high hand raised here!) it is still up and running with fresh content for those planning their weddings. Please go check them out.

      Minnesota Bride

For those of you who are local to the Twin Cities, I love this blog and magazine. They highlight local vendors and venues as well as highlight trends going on specific to the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area!

      Ruffled

Ruffled Blog is right up there with Style Me Pretty. Highlighting trends, DIY’s, trends for the year as well as many real weddings and styled shoots. Head on over to check out this elegant, luxury wedding blog.

      Green Wedding Shoes

Full of all the latest trends on the coasts, I love https://greenweddingshoes.com/Green Wedding Shoes because of it’s boho-chic vibe. It inspires me and brings me into looking at wedding trends that are just a bit different than that of the mid-west. Plus, I know that as the trends start on the coasts, they slowly make their way to us in about a year. I love seeing what is trending there! Plus one more thing I love about this blog, they highlight lifestyle and home decor.

So those are some of my favorite wedding blogs. There are a few other sites I often frequent when needing inspiration. Head on over to my Facebook page to see those sites!

Bridesmaids… Your best ally on a wedding day

Want to find your best ally as a photographer on a wedding day?  Look no further than to the left and the right of the bride!  Yes, a bridesmaid can be your best tool, best friend and best help on the day of a wedding.Knowing the bride herself, bridesmaids can help the bride feel more relaxed and alive on her wedding day. They are the forerunners that bring the fun and calm to the start of a crazy, fun wedding day.Bridesmaids also generally know the names of the attendants and can help wrangle everyone (including those runaway flower girls) into one location for photos.
They bring the fun, and the tears, and all the emotions in between, for the photos. I will generally have the bridesmaids all “fake laugh” when they are with the bride and I can’t tell you how many times this brings true, genuine laughter which is exactly what I am looking for in some of these photos!Bridesmaids can be amazing tools to a wedding day, not only to the bride but to me, the photographer!  They are pretty amazing and I love working with them!

          Wedding Hack:: Tip 1

Well I thought I would start a new series of hacks built around a wedding day.  Today I am sharing a tip I recieved from another friend and photographer, Gina, on bringing in command hooks to hang the dress on wedding days where a place to hang the dress simply can’t be found!

These Command hooks are a cheap and easy way to hang a dress where light is optimal and there is no place to hang up a dress.  In this situation, I found a choir room surrounded by windows and hung the dress around 3 of them.  It worked beautifully and I was able to get the shot and the look I was wanting!

Have a wedding hack and want to share it?  I would love to hear from you and share that hack here! But for today, thank you 3M, and Command hooks, for making my job even easier!
