Minneapolis Courthouse Wedding:: Jessica and Daryl

They had worked together for years and had been good friends connecting over their love of music, wine and work, so it wasn’t a big surprise to friends and family when Daryl and Jess began dating.  Both are from the mid-west, but reside in California for the time being.  Neither wanted a big wedding, so they settled on having a small courthouse wedding in Minneapolis (where Jess is from) with her sister and her family.  So in the afternoon on a Tuesday in a small courtroom Jess and Daryl committed themselves to one another.  It was a sweet and beautiful day to be a part of.A courthouse wedding has been on my bucket list of places to photograph for years, so when Jess contacted me, I was thrilled. After the ceremony, we wandered the full streets of Minneapolis for some city scapes of both Jess and Daryl together and alone.  It was a sweet day and I was honored to be a part of it.

Rochester Fairgrounds Wedding:: Katie and Matt

They met at John Adams Middle School in 6th grade and were among the same class of students that shuffled from classroom to classroom in a heard to each different subject, but soon bonded over their shared interests of soccer, band and church.  Katie and Matt were friends and shared a mutual respect for one another, and even went to their senior prom together, but never dated throughout high school or even college.  It wasn’t until they had both graduated and began working in their professions that they began to pursue one another.

After dating and knowing that marriage was in sight, Matt suggested a camping trip up to the North Shore of Minnesota over Memorial Day weekend. Because Katie had never been up to this part of Minnesota, the two stopped the night before at Gooseberry Falls to see the sun go down.  Matt suggested the next morning they wake up to see the sunrise and Katie was game.

At 4;30 the next morning, with blanket in one hand and a camera in the other, Matt was all smiles as they set out.  Wanting to capture the beauty of the occasion, Matt set up the camera on a picnic table and had Katie stand up straight for “photo purposes.” As she turned around to face the camera, Matt was on one knee proposing! Bewildered because they were in the process of designing her engagement ring which was nowhere near finished, Matt held out beautiful rosewood ring for her to accept while they waited for her other ring to be completed!

Their October wedding day at the Rochester Fairgrounds was one for my book.  Katie and Matt wanted each guest to feel truly greeted and a part of their wedding day and greeted each guest as the entered the ceremony.  Details of Katie and Matt were strung throughout the entire day making their day beautiful and unique to them.

Katie’s Wilderly Bride wedding dress purchased from Mestads Bridal was the perfect earthy look for her wedding day.

Katie’s wedding ring was handcrafted for her finger and the rosewood ring that Matt proposed with was used as her wedding ring!Katie’s color palette of earth tones was seen throughout the entire day from the bouquets, to her shoes she wore, to the make up she wore for the day.  Everything was incredablly natural and beautiful.Katie attended college in Tennessee and while she was there, she worked on a flower farm. One of the sweetest and most memorable parts of the day was her bouquet.  The florist that she worked or brought up flowers in her carry on direct from TN to put in Katie’s bouquet. Katie hand designed her bouquet with flowers from TN as well as foliage from her the home she grew up in, and around the surrounding area that were significant to both her and Matt. The bridesmaids all picked out their own dress in the color of Katie’s choice from Azazie.
The groomsmen all wore shades of blue with floral ties from Kohls.Rochester Fairgrounds was a perfect place to have both their ceremony and reception.  The ceremony took place upstairs while downstirs guest were able to enjoy drinks and snacks while they finished waiting for Katie and Matt as they finished photos.
For their stationary, Katie and Matt commissioned a Minneapolis artist to create an illustration of the both of them and describe their engagement on the North Shore.
During the ceremony a poet read the couples favorite poem and handbells were rung to a favorite song of the couples. The limestone, unique to this part of Minnesota, was one of the reasons Katie and Matt chose the fairgrounds for their ceremony and reception. It was only necessary that we use it for a photo!Unique to the fairgrounds is the water tower. Of course capturing it on this brisk sunny day was also necessary!Coffee, teas, sodas, and a variety of popcorn (all of the couples’s favorites) were part of the cocktail hour.During the reception, Katie and Matt decided to do a slideshow, but sang to one another during the time it was shown.Katie, also a Zumba instructor, surprised guests halfway through the dance by busting out a lesson. All guests, including her grandmother, participated!Matt and Katie, you are incredible people that I was blessed to photograph. Thank you for allowing me to be one of the people you included in your day. The Links at Northfolk Wedding:: Emily and Jackson

When she began her job as a youth pastor at a church, Emily never thought that she would meet the man that she was going to marry there.  One day the church maintenance man, Roger, called Emily down to his office.  Upon arriving, she found Roger at his desk with their church directory open. “Emily,” he said, “I found you a man” and pointed at Jackson’s photo.

She looked over at the photo of Jackson and wasn’t too sure.  The photo had been taken a few years earlier and Jackson looked younger than her.  But Roger knew Jackson and his family personally, and Emily had a good relationship with Roger that she trusted him.  She smiled and said, why not and a week later she received a call from Jackson asking her out to Mexican food.  After five hours of talking, they closed the place down, and a fabulous relationship began.

A few years later the two decided to plan a weekend trip to Nashville instead of giving one another Christmas gifts.  Because they both love quality time and the outdoors, it was a perfect place and gift for one another.  On the final day of the trip, they headed out for a hike at Greeter Falls.  When they got to the bottom of the falls, much to Emily’s surprise, Jackson got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him.  It was the easiest yes she had ever said and the two began planning their October wedding.

Emily’s off the shoulder Allure ball gown dress from Posh was perfectly paired with the ornate blooms that Maureen DeBruyn created to fit the day. Laura Westream Artistry and her team did hair and make up for the women while the burgundy Adrianna Papellbridesmaid dresses stood out beautifully against the fall color.Their October wedding day was beautiful.  After so many days of rain and gloom, the sun finally broke though and provided a glorious, brisk autumn day.  The two decided to get ready in the homes they grew up with their close families and friends and did their first look at a park nearby that was full of beautiful glowing yellows. The groomsmen wore black suits purchased from Milbern Clothing.Emily wore the earrings and necklace that her own mother wore in her wedding, and also incorporated a broach that belonged to her great-grandmother as a hairpiece.  Her mother also hand made the veil that she work for the day while the couple both wore rings from James Allen.Nothing Bundt Cakes brought in a tasty fall cake for the bridal party and Wells Catering provided a meal for guests. The Covers tore down the house while guests danced the night away and Bliss wedding video capture the day on film for the couple to see.

Emily and Jackson, I cannot thank you enough for including me in your amazing day.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are an incredible couple and I hope Hawaii is treating you well!

Church of St. Agnes Wedding:: Alicia and David

They didn’t know it, but both Alicia and David were destined for one another, only they lived thousands of miles away.  Alicia was in Minneapolis and David in California.  The two met online and immediantly were drawn to one another.  After two months of talking and getting to know one another over the phone, David made the treck from sunny California to snowy Minneapolis.  After spending the weekend together exploring all the Minneapolis sites, both Alicia and David knew that they wanted to be together and it was not long after that David made the move to Minnesota.

In January Alicia’s family went up to a cabin in northern Minnesota for an ice fishing trip and winter get away.  Both David and Alicia joined the family and during their time together they continued on with the tradition of “little Christmas” that Alicia’s dad created.  In that tradition her father would bring out a small gift that he specifically picked out for each of his family members and present them with it.  David knew the tradition was coming and so he also brought up his own small gift for Alicia and presented it in front of the entire family as he got down on one knee and Asked Alicia to be his wife!

Their October wedding day was completely beautiful.  Because Alicia studied for a time in Europe, and loved the traditional mass, she and David decided to do a full mass in Latin complete with singing and scripture.  The ornateness of her Essence of Australia wedding gown along with her full length veil completed her elegant ensemble.  After the mass, the couple headed to Como park for photos with their wedding party.Moody Hues Floral did an excellent job of bringing in the jewel tones of the season and matching the dresses perfectly while Veronica from VLK Cosmo and Makeup by Malee made Alicia look beautiful. The floral dresses that Alicia’s bridesmaids wore looked stunning against the colorful trees and were a perfect pop for the fall day.Because both Alicia and David love trying cupcakes at new bakeries together, it was only natural that the two incorporate cupcakes into their wedding day and Sweet Retreat brought in some of the sweetest flavors ranging from chocolate mocha to vanilla cream,It was on Zazzle that Alicia and David created their autumn wedding invitations and Shane Co created the beautiful wedding rings that both David and Alicia wore.Midwest sound kept guests dancing the night away while Chuck Goldman captured the entire day on video. What an incredibly beautiful day.  Thank you Alicia and David for including me in it and I wish you both years of joy and happiness together.
