How to put together your wedding day time line

One of the very first questions I receive in a wedding consultation is

How much time do I need for photos on my wedding day?

Knowing how long and when photos are to take place sets up most of the other vendors for the day and knowing how to put this together can help tremendously and alleviate lots of stress when meeting with other vendors and figuring out how your day might look.

Typically when I get this question, there are a few other questions that I usually have for the couple:
What time is your wedding at?
How long is your ceremony?
Will you be doing a first look, or do you plan on not seeing each other before the ceremony?
How large is your wedding party?
What photos are most important to you?
Do you want to go to an alternate location between the ceremony and reception?

From here, we can start setting up the time line of the day.  So to give you an example say you have a 4:00 wedding, the ceremony is 30 minutes long, you are planning on seeing each other beforehand for the first look, want an alternate location and have an average wedding party of 10 attendants and the photos of you and your spouse are of utmost importance.

Knowing all this information, I would advise you on booking a 10 hour day and the time line would look like this:

1:00- Wedding party to arrive at getting ready location, detail shots, finishing touches shots
1:30-First look with bride and groom, photos together
2:00- Wedding Party photos
2:30- Bride’s family photo (add in grandparents and other extended family)
3:00- Groom’s family photo (add in grandparents and other extended family)
3:30- Prep/ hide for ceremony
4:00- Ceremony Begins
4:30- Ceremony ends/ greet guests
5:00- Head to alternate location in transportation
7:00- Announcement of bride and groom
7:15 Dinner served/ Cake cutting/ Sunset photos of Bride and Groom/ Toasts
8:30- Dance begins- Reception candids
11:00 End of contract

Hope that helps in your planning!

Celebrating spring with the Fronden Family!

I am SO thankful to be shooting outdoors again.  The weather is finally warm and even if we have a few overcast rainy days, I will take them.  I met the sweet Fronden family in a central Minnesota park a few weeks back to celebrate their youngest being TWO!  It is crazy how fast time flies.  It seems like yesterday I was just photographing this little one being born!

These girls are at such fun stages, we played in the grasses and trails finding sticks and pinecones and they danced their way through our time.  I love these sessions!

If you are looking to update family photos, I have a few openings left for my mini sessions in May!  Contact me directly for more information!

        Vendor Highlight:: Designs by Rita

Rita and I met a few years back when she was the florist at a wedding I was photographing.  I really admire her work and when I asked if she would help me with a spring maternity session by creating a floral crown, she gladly agreed!   She is a veteran in the floral world and someone I look up to as a business owner.  In the ever-changing world of weddings, sticking around and maintaining quality business is hard to come by.  Rita is the real deal. If you have a minute to check her work out, you will not be disappointed. Below are some questions I asked her to answer!

What are 3 words describe your work?
        Honest, Reasonable, Beautiful

How long have you been in business?
I have been doing flowers for 30 years.

Why or how did you get started in your industry?
I wanted my own business and I love being creative, flowers and weddings seemed like a perfect fit!

        What have weddings taught you?
That traditions change and everyone has their own vision.

        What is your style?
My style is my customers style. I truly try to capture the look they are going for.

What is the best thing you have seen happen on a wedding day?
For me personally as the florist, when the bride is brought to tears when she sees her bouquet for the first time.

What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
Like many, Pinterest. However, my inspiration comes from my customers, their vision and always keeping up to date with designs, themes and color palettes.

What’s your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
Time spent with family and friends. Maybe some snuggle time with my dogs. Sometimes, getting in my sewing room and finding other ways of being creative.

Best or worst wedding advice you received when you got married?
Best…Always remain friends and laugh together, because at the end of the day…you will need that.

Advice you would give to newly engaged couples.
Continue to go on dates…FOREVER. Remind yourself during the rough times what brought you to this place in your life to begin with and if you feel you lost that…FIND IT AGAIN!

What sets you apart in your industry or what do your clients say about you?
My clients like that I’m up front and honest. I don’t push things upon them, I am here to bring their vision to life and to guide them in that direction. They like the fact that my years of experience not only lies in my floral designs, but in planning and organizing of the event itself.

Be sure to look Rita up Online and on Facebook!

St. Cloud Engagement session:: Laura and Bob

It was a cool and rainy afternoon, but we would take every bit of the last fall weather that we could get.  As I headed to Bob’s parent’s property in St. Cloud, I was astounded at the amount of color left on the trees.  Slowly the sun came out as we started the session and as we walked the property I could see why this sweet couple loved the area.  Surrounded by yellow Maples and Oaks, Laura and Bob walked hand in hand, as  he told me about the the pond he and his brothers used to play cops and robbers around and the home that his father few up in with his siblings.

As we headed to an open field on the land, curious cows greeted us and we laughed as they made their way into the background of the photos.

I simply can not wait to spend a beautiful summer day with this couple.
