Online tools I am using

If you have been following me at all, you know I love systems and ways to make life easier.  Don’t we all though?

Today I am going to share with you a few online tools I use that I use that are pretty inexpensive or free to help streamline all the ways I keep up with blogging and social media throughout the months.

  1. Planoly for Instagram– My ALL TIME favorite online system right now. Free or just $9.99/ month I can easily plan out my entire month for blog posts.  It is desktop and mobile compatible, so if you need to be on the go and schedule out your posts, this is a great tool.  I have not really found something I don’t like about it.  If you are looking for a system to see and plan out your Insta posts, start with their free trial and I assure you, you will look no farther!
  2. Facebook Scheduler- Recently I listened to a podcaster who was talking about social media.  Did you know in order for your Facebook posts (at least on business pages!) to be seen, you need to be posting AT LEAST four times per day?  This is so crazy and quite honestly, who has the time to be positing over 4 times a day! Not this girl.  So I started using the Facebook scheduler.  Honestly I know algorithms are all messed up, and I am not even trying to figure them out, but I will tell you, I have been planning out these 4 times/ day and posting them and have seen a trajectory on the up in my insights.  Plus, it has made me go back to previous weddings and sessions I have shot and share more photos.  We shall see how long I can keep this up for, but for the time being, I am really loving these!
  3. Quickbooks– Disclaimer here.  Not free at all, but completely worth the investment.  For someone who hates bookkeeping, I have been using quickbooks for the last few years and finally feel like I am starting to get the hang of it. On my list of to do’s this moth though, is to hand over the bookkeeping side of things to a real live bookkeeper who can easily go online and organize everything.
  4. She Reads Truth– I am LOVING this online Bible reading plan.  I use the app on my phone to keep up with my Bible reading, but also use the desktop version when I sit down at my desk.  There is no reason why I can’t read my Bible on a daily basis without this online tool!
  5. Audiable– Not only am I reading my Bible online, but I have been listening to a few online books this past winter.  My kids have also loved this app and desktop tool, plus we even have it for our kindle, so that wherever we leave off if we are listening in the car, we can pick it back up at home.  This past summer, the kids and I listened to over 20 books and we plan to do the same or more this summer!
  6. Blog Stomp– Need help with blog posts? Pinterest photos? Blog stomp is a great tool to compress the images that you need for your blog posts.  I use this for almost all my posts and I can literally put together an entire wedding post in less than 10 minutes.  Check them out if you are looking for an incredible tool for blogging!
  7. Fundy– Fundy has been my go to album designer.  I love the way that it creates proofs for my clients to view that are in low resolution as also the way it literally creates an album for me in minutes.

What online tools are you loving?  Please share them with me!  I am always looking for more tools to make my life easier, especially in busy season!

Top five web-sites I visit every day

On a typical workday I am buried in the work on my computer, so outside of the my social pages, you can typically find me perusing the sites below::

    Style Me Pretty-
One of the largest blogs surrounding weddings, this site inspires me as well as shows the latest trends in weddings. It makes me want to get married all over again!

    Twin Cities Mom Blog-
Typically I head here to find out what’s going on in the Twin Cities, events I can take my kids to or ideas other mom’s have for their own kids.  I love working with them too and have attended and photographed a few of their events this past year!  Check them out for more awesome things to do around the Twin Cities!

    Ask Pastor John-
If you are unfamiliar with John Piper, he used to be the pastor of the church we attended Bethlehem when we lived downtown.  Now retired, Pastor John answers so many difficult questions surrounding Christianity. Humble, wise and Bible-based, I love going to this site as I work to hear more Biblical answers to many questions I struggle with.

    Money Saving Mom-
If you didn’t know this about me already, I love a good deal.  I mean, really, who doesn’t?  There have been so many ways I have been able to find new products, find great deals for presents, and get practical ideas on how serve my family.

    Kare11-
Because I rarely watch the news, this is my go to local station to find out what’s going on!

What are your go-to sites?  I’d love to hear!!

        My “team”

Three years ago I was swamped.  It was September and I was booking new wedding clients, photography that year’s wedding clients and filling my weeks and extra weekends with family sessions.  I was constantly tired, staying up until the wee hours of the night and feeling done.  There was little interaction on my social pages and I was giving my family all the leftovers of myself.

I know something had to give, but I wasn’t sure what it was or how to even let certain things go.  For the past decade I had been the one running and managing everything.  Aside from my second shooters and accountant, I had hired no one else to help me… and as the business continued to grow, I could not keep up with it!

        Enter in Anne.

I met her sister at a women’s retreat, and after discussing where I was at in business, she made the suggestion of looking into hiring an editor, and she knew one personally.  Little did I know that our kids had been in the same class together and that we had actually met.  After chatting with her on the phone, and lessening my grip on the editing side, we spent the first part of the year figuring out how to match my style to her editing, and in May, she took over my editing.  She is amazing at what she does and works closely with me to make sure I am full satisfied with what she does and makes the photos look incredible.  I am SO, SO thankful for her, especially in these busy seasons! If you are looking for an editor, check her out HERE.

This year I knew I wanted to grow the business even more, and after chatting with a few friends in the industry, realized that one other aspect of my business I wanted to work on was my social media presence.  Now I don’t know about you, but I love social media.  I love interacting and connecting with people, I love looking at all the pretty things on Instagram and engaging with other vendors in my industry, but after a summer with my kiddos, it was not as easy to be as engaged.  I realized this was slipping and also realized I didn’t like the analytics as much as I thought I did and needed hep.

        In walks Susan.

Susan has taken over this aspect of my business.  She knows all the analytics, knows my audience, and posts at the appropriate times of my clients. Genius I say.  I still provide the content for all my social pages, but she posts, tags, connects, and does the behind the scenes in my social media platforms.  I love it.  She is yet another valuable resource for my business as it moves forward.  I love it!  If you are looking for a social media manager, I would highly recommend looking into her business!  See her site HERE!

Both of these women have been wonderful for the growth in my business as well as keeping my sanity.  Anytime you start a business it is hard handing parts over to other people.  I totally get it, but I would highly recommend (if you can) hiring out other people to help you move your business forward!

          Why a mini session?

Mini Session, full session, what’s the difference and why or how is one better for your family?

I’m so glad you asked!  This is a question I regularly get asked about and I would love to share with you some of my thoughts and things I have learned over the years about mini sessions and why they may (or may not) be a good fit for your family.

When a photographer refers to a mini session, most of the time they are referring to smaller session (15-30 minutes) that happen a few times a year, with the main focus being on capturing one main pose, say a family shot for a Holiday card, a milestone of a child or even an updated headshot.  Depending on the ages of your kids and your expectation of photos, mini sessions can be a great way to get those few pictures that you are looking for at a reasonable cost in short amount of time.

If you are wanting multiple outfit changes, a few different locations, or have kiddos that take a while to warm up to new people, a full session might be better for you and your family.

Also, mini sessions typically happen in the location that the photographer chooses.  (This is true of myself) and there are multiple families coming to that one location every 30 minutes for the day.

If you are wanting to choose your own location or have the photographer come to your home to capture more of your family in their element, my suggestion would be to do a full session.

Mini sessions can be a wonderful thing, and many of my clients rave about how quick they are especially when they have little people.  Husbands love them as well because they appease their wives and 25 minutes goes by when they are having fun and playing with their kids and of course, kissing their wives!

If you are interested in a full or mini session, I’d love to chat.  I am offering five different mini session dates and just added a few more times and one other date to the calendar!  See this LINK to see what is still available!
