The Beenan extended family

Whoa, what a crazy week.  I can’t believe its already Friday!?!  Where has the week gone?  Blogging comes as a bit difficult during this season.  With lots of Christmas orders, albums being completed and meeting with brides, it is really the first thing to go.  So many apologies to all you faithful readers.

This past weekend I not only was able to enjoy some great relaxing family time, I was also able to head outside and do 2 very fun shoots.

The first is the Beenan family.  They were so great to work with.  I was thankful for their flexibility to be out in the chilly weather and be photographed.  Here are some images from our time together

Lauren and Wade: the real deal

After being married a while, that lovin feelin we had so strongly in the dating years, tends to get squashed with the stresses of job, family and just plain life.  It is easy to get caught up in the every-day routine and forget the butterflies that we had for one another, and rush out the door without a kiss good-bye.  ( Speaking from experience!)

I was inspired.  Lauren and Wade are the real deal.  I know this because I know them.  Lauren is one of my good girlfriends from college.  I get to know the ins and outs of her life, as she knows mine.  I am truly blessed by this couple because they are so genuinely real.  They know the stresses of life and marriage, but they also know how to love and be loved through it all.

This shoot was extremely selfish on my part.  I asked Lauren if she and Wade would be my models so I could use them for some new ideas that I have been dying to try out to show some clients.  Of course she graciously agreed.  And here are some of my new ideas!  (eeekkk)

And… they even brought along Daisy.  Bless her little puppy soul for being our prop on such a cold day!

We also hit up the Christmas tree lot at the farmers market for some really fun photos.  Something that I would recommend to any family still wanting their photos taken (I am still shooting until Dec 11, so let me know if you’d like to book one of those last sessions!)

Then we took a turn to the actual farmers market, and yes even on a 30 degree day in November, they were still selling fruit and super sweet bouquets of flowers.  This is actually where I really wanted to do an engagement session during the summer, but it is WAY too busy on a Sat. morning.  But during the week… hummm, any 2010 brides wanna hit that up?

We then headed over to one of my favorite locations, and I took out some props that I have been dying to use; an old suitcase, and old camera (it was my grandfather’s who was a photographer in the 40’s!)  Lauren and Wade did not let me down, these are some of my favorites from the session.

And here are the rest from the day that are my favs from various places.

As we were doing a bunch of fun feet photos (does every woman totally wants a pair of bright RED pumps, or is it just me that is totally obsessed with them?!) Wade gave me the wonderful foot pose to end with.

Drop me a line.  I’d love to know what you think about the props/ locations/ poses!  Thanks again Wade and Lauren.  You guys made my month!

    Children’s Museum

I LOVE the Children’s museum.  Basically because the exhibits are so amazing and the kids can play for hours.  Big bonus this time I went, 90 people (moms and kids) attended the event from my mom’s group!  Let me tell you, it is the WAY TO GO.  I was able to chat with my friends while my kids played theirs.  There were also many eyes watching the doors, so if there was an escapee, they were quickly swooped up back into the pretend play land .  It was WONDERFUL.  Of course I stayed way too long.  ( I was busy crawling and enjoying the ant house with my 2 year old).  After I announced my regular “2 more minutes” at the face painting table there was a major meltdown followed by ear-piercing screams and fits of rage.  (You know the drill, we’ve all seen it).  I was all ready to shoot the remainder of the face creations, but Elise did not want to cooperate with my creative side.  Oh well.

      The Meyers Family

Jeremy and I grew up together.  We met while I was in 5th grade and he in 4th.  Our families went to the same church.  I had 2 sisters and no brothers, and over time Jeremy became our “adopted brother.”  Even though we lived in different cities, we saw each other at least twice a week, if not more, as he hung out regularly at the Davis home.  As we grew up and graduated from high school, we still hung out; going on youth trips together as “counselors” (What a joke as we were only a few years older than the kids we were supposed to be mentoring),  hanging out together, me getting advise about guys from him and him receiving advise from me on girls.  Over time he met his amazing wife Elizabeth and Eva was born a few years after that.  This past weekend I had yet another chance to hang out with their family and do a session for them.  Being that we hadn’t seen each other in almost a year, and that I had just met his new son, we had to do coffee afterward, just to catch up.

One of the reasons I had not seen Jeremy for a year is because he is a soldier and was deployed during part of 2008.  We found this great tribute to the soldiers at the Coon Rapids Dam which fit their family perfectly.  (Elizabeth used to be on active duty too (as an officer), but is now retired!)

Becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t easy. It took a lot of hard work in understanding what I wasn’t good at before understanding what I was good at. I failed a lot in the process.
.
We often only see the good things and success stories on social media, but getting to the point where we are confident in ourselves and our work takes time and lots of failures. Trust me. 25 years and still working at it!!
