The Smith extended family

I almost thought of throwing up a photo from 1992 when my 2 BFF’s from 6th grade and I were doing what we called our “modeling shoots.”  This mainly consisted of throwing our most recently purchased clothes on and then photographing each other with our 110 mm camera’s!  (Maybe those days made me a photographer?!)  Whatever the case may be, I have spent many a day with this beautiful family.  They saw me through my grade school years as a Brownie in Girl Scouts, to my very ugly adolescent years ( remember those hideous red glasses? ) up until we  graduated high school together.  Cassie and I were able to stay in contact a bit through college, but life eventually got busy and we just recently reconnected this past summer to have our kids play together.  It was just one of those cool circle of life things.  Crazy that we were playing together in kindergarten and then to have OUR kiddos playing together at almost the same age we were when we met was almost surreal for me!

Many years passed and I STILL laughed a lot with the Smith family.  smith 1My second set of parents while growing up.smith 9

The White Family

I had the great privilege of photographing little Hayley at just a few weeks (see HERE) old back in the spring, so when I got to see her in August at a wedding I was shooting I was pumped, but when here mom Jess called to see if I still had availability in October I was thrilled.  You see, I LOVE being involved with my clients on their life long journey starting with marriage and into those parenting years.  I love seeing the ages and stages on how they grow, and being able to stay in touch with the couple.  The White’s and I met up at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove and had a bunch of wonderfully artistic pumpkins for props.  Little Hayley was smiling and laughing through almost the entire session.  I can’t wait to see more of her as she continues to grow.white 7white 6white 3white 10white 8white 9white 2white 5white 4

The Larsen Family

Neighbors.  I love that word.  Makes me think of Mr. Rodgers, or the Cosby’s.  They are people that you know who know what is going on with the vicinity that you live in.  Paul and Noel are just that.  They are locals.  As in Robbinsdale locals.  Noel and I met through mutual friends and later found out that we live just blocks from each other.  Their little guy is also a friend of the girls and loves referring to my youngest as “baby Ben.”  The Larsens and I decided to head out to our neighboring community of, yes, Minneapolis.  We had a great time exploring the Warehouse district and got one of the most perfect afternoons for photoslarsen 11larsen 10larsen 6larsen 4larsen 5larsen 7larsen 9larsen 8larsen 3larsen 2larsen 12.

    The Jens Family

Angela and I met back in high school ( I was a sophomore and she was a junior) through a group of mutual friends.  We worked at the infamous Old Navy that had just opened in Maple Grove and spent many a night after closing, folding clothes listening to that awful upbeat shopping music.  We had lost touch since facebook and then reconnected again.  She is still that wonderful girl that I laughed with singing Tainted Love to, but now has the most wonderful husband and two absolutely beautiful girls.  We had a wonderful crisp fall day shooting at Gale Woods.  Her oldest did a fabulous job, until the farm life got the best of her, and we had to wrap up the day.  Here is a small portion of the day!

      The Hedin Family

I shot Paul and Amber’s wedding over 3 years ago, and one of the things I loved about them was the fact that they gave me free reign to do whatever I wanted and how I wanted.  They just wanted the best possible photos I could give them.  When Amber asked if I’d be willing to do their photos again, adding their newest addition, I was super pumped to be able to think around the box  and use their oh-so-delicious son, ( who was BTW one of the most happy babies that I have photographed this season!)  We let the little guy lose on his new walking legs and just chased him around Elm Creek Park reserve in Maple Grove.  We had a great time together just beat out the rain for another day this week!

Becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t easy. It took a lot of hard work in understanding what I wasn’t good at before understanding what I was good at. I failed a lot in the process.
.
We often only see the good things and success stories on social media, but getting to the point where we are confident in ourselves and our work takes time and lots of failures. Trust me. 25 years and still working at it!!
