Twin Cities Mom’s Collective:: Bloom

Need a great space and place to connect with other Mom’s? Have you heard of Twin Cities Moms Collective? If not, they are well worth checking out. For the past 4 years, I have been fortunate to work with this great group of women and photograph their incredible events. This year their Bloom event, typically done in the spring, was held on the football field in the evening at Breck school. Many mom’s came out to enjoy the event and to learn more about becoming a new mom and Twin Cities Mom’s did not disappoint! What a beautiful event to be a part of.

    How to put a styled shoot together:: Part one, collaborating with other vendors

    Tattersall Distillery weddingThis past year one of my goals was to put together a styled shoot. So far I have already done two another one is in the works for the fall. By doing so, I was able to connect with other vendors in the industry and collaborate with them on some new and inspiring ideas that we all had.   Today and tomorrow I will be sharing some tips on ways to put together your own style shoot.

    1. Connectction.  Finding other vendors that you want to work with is where this shoot begins. It can be coming early to a wedding to meet a florist or a planner or it could be reaching out over email or by phone call.   It could be commenting on a Facebook or Instagram post or it could be taking  someone out for coffee. Whatever the case may be, make sure you are becoming a face to a name and a person that people will remember.
    2. Being a part of creative networks.  If you are just starting your business, this is a great place to start. Last year I focused on going to as many wedding events as I possibly could to meet other creatives in the industry. This could be a Tuesday Together group, or a gathering that the knot or any other local wedding network you are aware of. In our market in Minneapolis, there are a few bridal magazines and photofinishing companies that put on events throughout the year.  I would highly advise going to these if you are able. They are great place to connect with like-minded people.
    3.  Support other vendors.  Thankfully I live in a market where there are so many different types of creative’s. Along with that, there are also many many events that are put on throughout the year. If one of my friends in the industry is putting on an event, like my friend Kelly did,  I usually try to attend in order to support and encourage them in their own creative endeavors as well as to connect with others.

    These are just some ways to start the process of connecting with other vendors. When you connect with other vendors this gives you  credibility as well as friendships. And we all know that  we’d rather work with her friends and with people we don’t know!

    Come back tomorrow when I’ll be sharing 12 practical tips in making a styled shoot a reality

        The Marshall:: A place I want to live!!

        Typically on the blog you will see people, but today is a little different.  Once in a while I get to shoot a corporate event and this one was too awesome not to share.  Mainly because I would want to live here, if I were in college and wanted to live on the West Bank and had no kids… oh wait, maybe I am dreaming about being 10 years younger…

        But seriously if you are looking for a place to live in Minneapolis, you have to check out this hot modern (dare I say sexy?) apartment/ town home complex.  It has everything from a pool, to volleyball courts, huge apartments, a computer area, workout space and much more.  Also what I as a creative loved about it was that the place had character!  Built where the old Marshall high school was (thus the name- the Marshall) the builders incorporated awesome details from the high school.  They used the old basketball court as a wall in the bar/ commons area as well as outside of the elevators.  They kept the entrance of the school as a plaque in the center of the courtyard and my favorite part of all, the fireplace is lined with old skateboards as tile!!  I am sure there is much more that I am unaware of, but let me get this out to you…. it is awesome!

        I had the opportunity to work again with Joan of Ambiente, and let me tell you, she made the is grand opening event a hit!!  If you’d like to see more of this awesome place, check out The Marshall’s web-site HERE.

          Welcome Home!!

          It is one thing to hear of a soldiar leaving to go overseas for a year, it is another to know him and his family.  The Schuts have been long time clients/ friends of mine and last winter when I did their maternity session they told me the news that Nate would be leaving to go overseas not long after his first son was to be born.  My heart ached for both of them as well as for their kiddos.  Throughout the year, I was able to photograph their son and how he grew and hear about how things were going.  Thankfully the year passed and that spring day arrived when Nate walked off the plane to greet his family again and to finally be able to hold them all again.  It was an honor and joy to be able to capture this moment in time for them.  And for all who serve or who have family that do, we are so BLESSED by your sacrifices.  Thank you!!
