Dumas Family: Canada bound

When I sat down to write this post, it took me for.ev.er to think of what I would say.  How do you put into writing what your heart feels toward a person, or family?  I guess that is what writers do which is why I am a photographer and not a writer!

Let me preface this post and say that this family is very near and dear to my heart.

They showed up at a picnic, and immediately I was drawn to them.  There was a demeanor of simplicity they displayed.  Not on purpose, but it was just who they were.  I knew that they were different, and I wanted to get to know them.  As the weeks progressed and I was able to actually introduce myself, I learned that they were from Quebec.  The mother, Marie, barley knew English, but strove to conquer it.  I was swept away in her determination.  She did learn it and is completely fluent now (although as she reads this is shaking her head in total disagreement!)

In the 2 years that I was blessed to know this beautiful family, they faithfully watched our children, made us meals, mentored my husband and I, prayed with us and for us.  When they announced that they were moving back to Canada, it was not a huge surprise, but it still saddened our family.  I know they were sent as a gift to us for a short time to encourage us and teach us.  It is amazing how God ordains exactly what we need and when we need it.  I look forward to the day when we will be together again whether it be in this life or the next.

One other thing that I loved about this family was how musically gifted they all are.  They each play an instrument…and they are GOOD!

And how they will forever be etched in my mind…

May the Lord bless you as you go.

Much love to you, you will be missed.

    STUNNING!

Friday fun: random favorites

Being a photographer in Minneapolis is so seasonal, as the warmer weather affords for more outdoor activities, and more weddings and family portraits are scheduled.  This month I specifically set aside some time to enjoy the summer and my family.  I decided to not shoot any weddings this month so that I had some weekends that were free to do summer activities, and get geared up for the fall.  Here are some really random summer favorites that I pulled for today’s blog.

1) Attending a wedding… as a guest!  In June our family was invited to a wedding that I was a guest at.  It was wonderful to attend and get all dressed up for (one of my favorite things to do).  We basked in the “I do’s” and the company of friends.  Of course I had to bring the camera, but more for the sake of getting a photo of the kids dressed up together!

2) I have been in the process of re-decorating my house.  Here is a site that has been inspiring me called Ruffles and Ramblings.  I just think these two sisters have some really creative ideas.

Happy weekend!

    Invitation, Heels and Little People

When I got the invite, I was floored.  I envisioned myself and my husband all dressed up in our cocktail attire stepping into the clean fresh smelling car by ourselves, relaxing as we mingled and chatted with people.  A time to soak in the last rays of the sun and enjoy a meal together.

Alas, that is not the case.  And I am sure if you are as busy as we are in the summer time, it is far from reality!  What I had envisioned might have happened about 5 and a half years ago, but not the case today.

    Today my reality consists of:

Jumping in the shower while naps are being taken, trying to get my hair and make up to look half way decent.  Stopping at my sister’s to get some of her cocktail attire, because not only have I not had time to shop, I need her help telling me what is in style! Rushing the kids in the mini-van with pizza in hand, praying that nothing spills on my dress because it is the ONLY thing I have.  Thanking my good friend Sarah for watching my kids for 2 hours and whizzing off to the event with a good friend because my husband has to work.

And to be honest, I love my reality because I know it will be gone in no time.   I will want the tugging at my dress, kisses at the door, and long good night stories about all the pretty ladies in their dresses.  So these days I will take great wedding events even if they get me out of the door for 2 hours and back home to the little people I love most.

    Swimsuits and water

Made for our July 4th weekend.  And a lot of mosquito bites!  We headed to visit the in-laws for the long weekend and had some wonderful weather and a lot of time with family, good friends, time in our swimsuits, and tractor rides.  Hope your long weekend was beautiful!

      Summer is here!

In the Feder home, the first thing to come with swimsuits and pool days is watermelon.  It is the first true sign that summer has actually come.  Finally, it is warm enough to eat the sweet wonderful fruit the way it should be eaten… in triangles and all messy!  The only place I like to allow this is outside!  It is the perfect treat for a summer day!  Here’s to many more!
