My love/ hate relationship with Black Friday

It is another one of those love/ hate relationships for me. Like I have with snow.  I love it because it is so beautiful and peaceful.  It clears all the brown away and makes for a cozy afternoon inside with a warm cup of coffee.

I hate it because I live in Minnesota, and every other day in winter can become a day of snow.  Traffic gets crazy, people either go way too fast or way too slow on the roads, and it means that my trusted shovel comes out once again so that I can have a place to walk.

So it is with shopping.  My love/ hate relationship returns.  It was so much easier back when I didn’t have kids.  I could easily go to the mall for a quick stop and get what I needed and where I needed it.  Now it has become a rarity basically because it is NOT a quick stop with the kids and when I do go, I seem to take forever to try and find exactly what I am looking for.

Black Friday has become my way out, espically at Christmas time.    I have to say I have a love/ hate relationship with this day as well.  Basically because now it is finding the things that I really need/ want and who I am buying a gift for.  Love it because of all the amazing deals that take place.  Hate it because I probably spend way more than I should.  Love it because sales start at 3am, hate it for the same reason!  Love it because I can get all my shopping done in one day, hate it for the crowds and parking spot fights.

So I am giving into this love/ hate relationship today by finding a happy medium… On-line shopping!  Have a great Friday, and happy shopping!

If you are on-line shopping, don’t forget about the Thanksgiving/ Black Friday sale that I have going on now, see yesterday’s post for more details!

Happy Birthday to my little man

I have to admit, as I was going through all Ben’s photos, I got a bit choked up.  With your first you are always anticipating the “next’s”  Next tooth, next word, next step, next stage.  The second slowed me down to actually enjoy each stage as it was brought to me, but this last little one has got me running to keep up with the stages, leaving me in the dust with more of a WAIT, STOP, I am not ready for you to move on yet.

So it has been with Ben.  Literally as he hits two today, I am continually jumping and running, more than I ever did with the girls.  I can not tell you how much more destruction that h asbecome him.  His adventurous male spirit has emerged into words of  “self”, and “mine”.  And just last week I was awoken to Lydia screaming  “MOM BEN IS OUTSIDE!!!!”  and me in my PJ’s running with another form of WAIT!!! after a 2 year old that had figured out how to get the front door open and go exploring for balls in the backyard.

It has been a wonderfully fun and amazing journey.  Benjamin David, beloved son of my right hand, and my baby, we are blessed to have you in our lives and call you our son.  Happy 2nd birthday!

      Happy Birthday times 3

Six years ago on November 1st Kevin’s birthday present came in the form of a little girl weighing 4 pounds and 4 weeks early, Lydia Rose.  We have delighted in celebrating their birthday’s together and love the fact that they share this bond.  On Monday, I was going to post this great photo of the two of them together then and now, but thought it best to wait after we got a text from my brother in law informing us that Lydia’s birthday wish had come true.  This time it was in the form of another little girl, her cousin, Elizabeth Grace.  I think it will be one of the bests gifts she could ever get.

        A trip to the farm

October has been my busiest, craziest month yet.  Every year I get to this time and feel like my head is spinning around in circles.  I would be lost without my To Do list, Pandora Radio, my wonderful supportive husband, late nights of coffee and field trips with my kids.  With fall being my very favorite season and also my busiest, I have to force myself to take days off to do the things I love… like the farm.

A few years ago we found this quaint little farm out in Delano, Fall Harvest, to celebrate Lydia’s 4th birthday at.  The kids loved it, and so did the parents.  I took my kids last week just to get outside before all the snow fell and fall began to take more of it’s MN state; cold and windy.

I am so glad we got out and thoroughly enjoyed our day.  It is quiet, relaxing moments that get me back into the grind of the season without forgetting the things and people I absolutely love.

        Happy Friday.

        A trip to the orchard

Yes, one of the things on my personal list for the fall was to get to the apple orchard, one of my very favorite fall activities as a family.  And this year we are actually going twice (making up for last year that we missed it).  It is also one of my vary favorite places to photograph my kids.  So this year, in the midst of the busy season, I pulled out the camera and brought it along for the trip.

We hit up Minnetonka Orchards, which I have never been to, and loved it!  The colors of the place were absolutely beautiful.

We actually visited with a few friends of mine that are home during the day with their kids, here are all of them! (notice no one is looking at the camera!)

And the ride home was wonderful and peaceful because all had fallen asleep.  Magnificent, quiet is my favorite sound after a day like this!

Have a great weekend, and you Minnesotans, don’t forget to make it out to the orchard this year!
