“Interest in photography”

It was a prayer that I never even prayed, but the Lord knew.  He knew life with 3 kids had been extremely fast and knew the work load would be more than I could  have imagined for this season of life.   He knew my hatred for entering receipts for tax purposes and organizing them, and knew how much I enjoy teaching and talking the language of photography.

And then it came.  The e-mail titled: “Interest in Photography.”

I was thrilled that she would even think of me, and actually honored and humbled that she would even think of me.  She told me she had been following my fan page on facebook and was extremely interested in interning with me for a semester to get her feet wet in the world pf photography.  So we exchanged a few e-mails, met and there was a instant connection.

I have been EXTREMLY blessed this season.

Lauren is a senior at Bethel college and is pursuing a degree in Media communications and a minor in studio art.  We met briefly in 2007 when I was shooting her brother and sister-in-law’s wedding.  I have loved having her come and have been very impressed with her character and work ethic.  She has joyfully taken on challenges, and been a student that is ready to learn, even tax preparations!

I love the idea of internships and apprenticeships.  I was an intern for a Time/ Life documentary photographer even before I started shooting weddings, and I learned so much more than college or labs could teach me.  It is something I would strongly recommend for any budding photographer who really wants to learn what the field is all about.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU Lauren for all the work that you have done and continue to do.  You are truly a gift from God.

PS.  Check out her Blog HERE, makes me so proud!

Lauren is great!!! When Mark and I worked with the youth group at Crystal Free Church she was in our “small group”. It’s so crazy when you know 2 different people from completely different places and then they end up meeting and working together! 🙂

Nate and Leah

Nate and Leah have an incredible story on how the two of them met.  The short version: As Leah’s mother was touring homes in the Iowa area, she entered a beautiful historic farm house and looked around and found a photo of Nate.   She immediately thought of her daughter.  She knew then and there that she wanted to play matchmaker, and through a series of events  introduced Leah to Nate.  After 2 months of dating, both Leah and Nate were convinced that they had met their soul mate.  Nate popped the question and Leah gleefully said yes!  An Iowan, August wedding is in store for this beautiful couple!

Many blessings to you both!  It was such a joy to work with you!

    BJ and Amanda

It was one of those perfect winter days.  Not too cold, not too windy, beautiful sunny day, and an amazing couple who was ready to tie the knot!  The sun warmed up the cool winter day and when I suggested we head outside for photos, they were both more than willing!

Amanda’s color scheme was amazing for the winter.  She chose violets, reds and whites for her day.  I could not get enough of the flowers, they popped against the attire.  On her bouquet was a beautiful vintage broach that belonged to her grandmother.

We headed out along a side street in Maple Grove and found a barber shop (thanks to my wonderful assistant, Elena!) to shoot some photos in and around.  The outside was a wonderful old brick farm house and we used it for all its worth!

After being in the cold for a while, we came back to the church and used the fabulous lighting for some indoor shots and the ceremony.

The reception was held at the Crown Room in Rogers, an AMAZING venue.

Many, many thanks to Amanda and BJ and their amazing wedding party for braving the winter weather with me.  They were awesome.  It was such a joy to work with all of you, many blessings to you both as you embark on this adventure of marriage!

        Jon and Luda

It is always an honor when asked to photograph a wedding of a vendor that works in the business.  Luda is a florist (See her web-site HERE) and we met a few years ago at a mutual friend’s wedding.  Since then we have remained in contact and when she called to ask if I’d be willing to shoot her wedding, I was thrilled.

The wedding took place at Forepaughs in St. Paul.  Because Luda is from Russia, she and Jon decided to have a very intimate wedding with very close friends and family.  We headed toward Irvine park and down to the river front to do most of their photos.

When Luda and I were discussing the details of the day, I asked if she had any cultural items that she wanted to use as props.  Because she had just come back from Russia, she brought Jon a very Russian looking hat.  When I asked her if she had a cover up or jacket,  I loved her reply:  “Of course I’m from Russia, I have a Fur coat!”

Thank you Jon and Luda for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day.  Many blessings to you as you enter into marriage.

Special thinks to Joan at Forepaughs (See site HERE) in St. Paul, Jennie at the Paper Garden (See site HERE) and Andrea their wedding planner for all their help in accommodating Jon, Luda and me, as we were running all over taking photos.
