Brian and Lauren:: TPC Twin Cities Wedding

When Lauren and Brian were asked to lead a mission trip for their church’s youth group, both excitedly agreed.  Growing up in the same church, Brian and Lauren were good friends, knew one another’s families, and loved serving together.  They had both been on trips together as youth, but as adults, they connected on a deeper level as they served together and talked into the wee hours of the night as the youth slept. When they returned home from the trip, both agreed to go out for a frosty beverage and began dating.

Last October, Brian and Lauren decided they wanted to take a trip up to one of their favorite place; Lake Superior on the North Shore.  They stayed at Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay and after a day of sightseeing and hiking, they headed to the Split Rock Lighthouse on the shore of Lake Superior.  As they walked on the rocks, Lauren knew something was about to happen as Brian reached into his pocket and before he could even get down on one knee to ask her to be his wife, Lauren said yes!

Lauren and Brian’s October wedding day was almost exactly one year after getting engaged and took place at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Roseville. The reception was held at the luxurious TPC Twin Cities Golf Course.  Navy and gold were the colors of the day and were intermixed with the gorgeous fall blooms from Appleblossom Flowers.  Because both Brian and Lauren love exploring local breweries, they incorporated growlers of the many different breweries they had been together including Great Dane Pub, Fitgers Brewhouse, and Shore (just to name a few! ) Lauren’s veil which was hand- sewn by her aunt as a wedding gift, was a gorgeous touch to her elegant Stella York dress form Luxe Bridal. Her bridesmaids work navy Mori Lee dresses from the Wedding Shoppe while Brian and his groomsmen all purchased grey suits and navy patterned ties from Heimies Haberdashery.  Midwest Sound did an amazing job of keeping the party moving as the crowd danced the night away.

Lauren and Brian, you are truly kind and amazing people.  I am so glad our paths have crossed and I am honored to have photographed your beautiful day! Congratulations!

White Bear Lake Wedding:: John and Margaret

When the forecast predicted rain for the entire day, it didn’t phase John and Margaret.  Outdoor lovers, the two could have cared less that the rain fell and embraced it fully as they met one another along the banks of Matoska Park in White Bear Lake for their first look.  Family and friends joined them not too long after, and as the skies let the rain fall, only joy could be found among them all.

After photos outdoors, the family headed to White Bear Country Inn, where the intimate group of family and friends witnessed John and Margaret vow their lives to one another.  Margaret chose an elegant royal blue evening gown as her wedding dress while her daughters chose blush toned dresses from Rent the Runway and David’s Bridal to compliment her gown as they stood by her side.  White lily’s were the flower of the wedding day and John’s grandsons wore suits and ties as they stood in support of their grandfather’s wedding day.  It couldn’t have been a more joy-filled day celebrating the love between John and Margaret.

John and Margaret, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful day and to all your family, thank you for braving the rain with me.  You all are incredible people, and I am so blessed and honored you chose me to document your day.

Calhoun Beach Club Wedding:: Kari and Mark

She turned him down when he initially asked her out.  Mark was everything Kari was looking for in a husband, but there was one huge problem… he lived in North Carolina. Deep in her soul, Kari wanted to make it work out, but she informed him that the relationship was unrealistic. Mark was persistent, and wasn’t ready to let Kari go.  The two continued talking and a month later, Mark flew up in a snowstorm to the beautiful state of Minnesota.

After dating long distance for eleven Months, Mark made the move up to Minnesota to be with Kari.  Leaving the heat, a beautiful home, and a good job, Kari knew he was the one.  On the Saturday of Easter weekend, Mark had planned for the two to spend the afternoon together hiking at one of their favorite locations, Minehaha Falls.  Trying to avoid the crowds, Mark found a beautiful location and ended up getting down on one knee to propose to Kari.  After a resounding yes, a huge hug, Mark asked, ” Aren’t you even going to look at the ring?!”

Their September wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect.  The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze, and friends and family from all over the United States came to join them in celebration at Calvary Church.  After the ceremony guests and the wedding party headed to the classic Calhoun Beach Club for dinner catered by D’Amico. Kari’s Catherine Deane Cora gown from Posh Bridal was of perfect elegance when parried with the Tommy Hilfiger lavender gowns her bridesmaids wore.  Pops of ivory roses and eucalyptus bouquets that were handmade by Kari added yet another touch of beauty to the day.  Walking along the Minneapolis lake Calhoun provided a perfect backdrop for the wedding party and made for beautiful photos as the sun was setting.

Kari and Mark, you are a beautiful couple inside and out, and it was a joy and blessing to participate in your wedding day.  I wish you years of joy and happiness as you begin this beautiful road of marriage!

How to prep for your wedding:: Questions to ask your photographer

It has been such a great week sharing information on how to get ready for your wedding.  Although there are SO many sites to gather information, I’m thankful if you have taken the time to read over the last few posts.

Today I want to address a few questions that I would LOVE to have asked that many of the wedding blogs miss. Although these are great questions… “What is your style, how would you define your work, how many years have you been in photography,” there are other questions that I know a lot of brides ask later in the process that are often forgotten in the initial meeting.

So here are a few questions you might want to add to your list as you are meeting with photographers to photograph your big day.

What is your favorite thing to photograph?

What makes you love photographing weddings?

You see a lot of weddings. What is the one that stands out the most and why?

After the wedding happens will we see an Instagram post? Blog post? Facebook preview?  How long after will this happen?

What is the back process to the wedding day (post processing)? How long will it take to see our gallery, get our prints or our album?

How do you feel about family members photographing during the wedding day?

I really love the natural expressions on couples faces.  How does that happen and what do you do to make that happen?

Do you have a team of people helping you on the wedding day or after?

What happens if you get sick or are unable to photograph our day for us?

Will you be the one photographing our wedding?

If you have a second shooter, how long have you been working together?

Can I share photos with the vendors I am working with, or will you do that?

There are some family situations you should know about, how do you handle these situations?

Is there an engagement session with our package?  How is this helpful for our wedding day?

Hope that adds to your planning process!
