Friday Introduction!

Happy Friday friends. It’s time for another #Fridayintroduction.

If you are new around here, welcome and thanks for stopping by. I’m Karen, a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in the Minneapolis area. I like (in no particular order)
1) My husband and three kiddos (most of the time)
2) Chips and salsa. I could get it as a meal in any Mexican restaurant
3) Drinking coffee, most of the time the one I make from home rather than a coffee shop.
4) The month of July and really, really hot days
5) Peonies
6) Newborn babies and the way they smell
7) The first time a momma sees her daughter in her wedding dress
8) Baths
9) Goal setting
10) Flannel sheets (are you sensing the hot theme)

I’d love to hear some of your favorite things! Leave your comments below!

    Reflections:: 16 years

    Its amazing, really, when I look back on my life and think what I wanted it to be and how different; dare I say, better, than I thought it would be?  Never in a million years would I have said, “Yes, I want to be married at 22, have 3 kids by the time I was 30, be a pastor’s wife, plant a church and live in the suburbs.”  Maybe some of my long time friends would have said this of me, but not me.  I wanted to travel the world photographing my adventures along the way and maybe, maybe get married at 30.

    Istn’t it funny how God has a way of redirecting a life to refine, grow-up and change a person through circumstances we would never choose for ourselves?

    In the past 16 years, both Kevin and I have grown-up and we are not the people (thank goodness!) that we were at 22 and 23.

    As I sat down to think of all the things we have been through together in the past 16 years, I thought about how we have been broken, tired and beat down.  We have struggled through loss (babies, homes, friends and desires).  We have traveled.  We have learned. We have struggled financially.  We have hiked, ran, biked, climbed, canoed and camped together. We have struggled in communication.  We have laughed. We have fought.  We have parented.  We have encouraged and even discouraged one another.  We have cried together.  We have missed each other.  And we have loved.

    Unconditionally.

    We aren’t perfect, and we never will be.  But this sweet, and incredible relationship called marraige has molded us into new and different people than we were 16 years ago.  It has not been easy, but it has grown me and brought me so much joy.   What a gift Kevin is to me and I am so thankful to be celebrating these sweet years together with him.

      Reflections:: Friday introductions

      Happy Friday to you! Can you believe we are already eight months into 2018?! If you are new to the space, let me give you my Friday Intro. I’m Karen, a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in the Minneapolis area. Some random things you might not know about me:
      1) I LOVE summer and watersides and have been going to @noahsarkwaterpk as long as I can remember.
      2) When I was 14, I knew I was going to be a photographer and never looked at any other profession.
      3) I met my husband my last semester in college and so glad I did because I formed lifelong friendships with some pretty incredible ladies.
      4) I planned my wedding in 6 months and so glad I did because I hate decision making.
      5)I love the state fair and every year my kids and I have a contest to see how long we can spend the day there for.  We are currently at 14 hours.  I’m not really sure if we can break that one… we head out on Monday to try and break that record!
      6) My kids always ask me what my favorite color is and I usually say all of them, because who can have just ONE favorite color?!
      Do you?! If so, I’d love to hear it and why!!
      Happy Friday!

        Reflections:: Parenting

        I was listening to a podcast this week about raising teenagers. The host mentioned that she remembered feeling physically exhausted she was when her kiddos were little, but now as teens, feeling mentally exhausted with all the things that she has to think about. Questions ranging from Are they making the right friends, to are they BEING a good friend, to have I prepared them well for xyz. Having a 13 year old, I am just beginning to feel this way, and quite frankly there are days I would rather go back to the physically exhausted days! Any other momma feeling me, or am I just plain crazy?

          Reflections:: Friday Nights

          Before we had kids, Friday nights were so much fun. We would grab dinner somewhere in the City, walk around or just shoot the breeze. That was totally gone when our kids were little and we struggled to find a babysitter or the energy to even go out! But now we are slowly able to get back into enjoying Friday nights as our kids become teenagers. Sometimes we all head out to eat, or Kevin and I get a date night while our oldest baby-sits! It is crazy to think we have to this stage of life, but let me tell you, it is pretty great! Happy Friday night to you in whatever you are doing!
