Five places I’ve been this Summer

Chicago. We took a quick trip to go see some of our good friends in Chicago. As fast as it was it is always a blessing to see them. Added bonus… we got to meet their newest little one.

The lake. Yes I’ve been making it a point to get to the lake as much as I can this summer. It is literally 8 minutes from our house and provides warmth and a feeling like I’m at a cabin for a few hours!

Brainerd Lakes area! Our family took a day trip up north to head out on the trails for a 30 mile bike ride! It’s amazing how My kids were able to do this so well… a few stops including ice cream and pizza helped

Wisconsin! Over the 4th we saw family and friends and relaxed for a few days! Such a gift!

Camp. For a week this summer I headed up north with 2 of my kids and my niece and nephew to be a counselor for the week! It was so much fun and brought me so much joy to be able to pour into these middle schoolers!

I have been trying really hard to really utilize my summer and prioritize my family this year! Taking on less weddings and spending this time with them has proved to be so wonderful. I know these are valuable years and I’m so very thankful for them and the job I have that allows me to be with them. It’s certainly a gift

Friday Intro and why I love July

Five things I love about July….
      1) The heat! Yes, I am one of those crazy people who just likes the heat and even the humidity.

      2) The fourth of July. As a child, all my extended family lived out of state, so over the 4th of July we all reunited every year. It was a joyous celebration and I remember the days where my uncle would play his clarinet in the band of the small town my did grew up in. From there we would watch fireworks while my grandma sang showtunes and all the patriotic songs as fireworks sailed in the sky. It is such a good memory I have and I love spending time with our extended family and friends.

      3) Camp! Are you sensing my nostalgia? I love returning to the camp I grew up going to! This year I get to volunteer when my own kids return for a week. I’m not sure as an adult if I love it as much as I did when I was a kid, but I am so thrilled they get to go.

      4) Nights on the deck. Can you say 75 and soft breezes? I am loving these nights. My husband and I have been spending about 30 minutes each night connecting and locking ourselves away from our kids. We have even had a games and evenings of long dinners out there.

      5) Visiting friends. Even though the end of my month kicks off my busy season, (yes, from now every weekend until the second week of November is booked) I have been so thankful for a few Saturday’s off and visiting friends in and out of state. What a joy the summer brings especially for us living in the mid-west.

Five things I have learned about 10 year old summer sports

        1. Before signing up children for sports, make sure that if you are doing two different sports that they don’t happen on the same day/time.
        2. Soccer takes about one hour to complete a game while baseball can take anywhere from 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours.
        3. Soccer parents, even those who don’t seem aggressive (ie me)can become provoked to anger and acting like they know the game better than anyone else when teams play dirty.
        4. Ten year old house baseball can easily become watching two ten year olds play catch while other ten year old boys stand/ dance/ do push ups on the field while waiting. At times a hit may take place, but then it can easily become a game of chase the ball all over the field.
        5. Don’t be your kids sports photographer or your photos may look like the one below.
