Fernandez Family:: Going from three to five!

Going from one child to two can be a huge life transformation, but what about going from one to three?!  The sweet Fernandez family of Plymouth did just that.  My heart was absolutely melting as these two little ones were complete angels.  Hardly making a peep, sleeping throughout the entire session and still tiny and scrunched made the session even more enjoyable. Their parents and big brother welcomed them with joy, and we even did a little bed-bouncing to keep the session fun! All the sweet noises, movements, and smells made me appreciate even more the newness of life and how precious it is. Congratulations Michelle and Hector, I can not wait to see you as parents of three!

Such sweet pictures Karen! Amazing work!

FAQ’s:: Top 10 apps I use on my phone

Happy Monday to you!  It you have been following the blog at all, you know that I have started a mini series where I am answering questions that I frequently get from photographers and friends.  Continuing on today the next question that I wanted to address::

What are some of your favorite apps that you use on your phone?

So here goes with links to all.

White Noise:: I love using this app when I am at a newborn session and baby is having troubles sleeping.  Simply put your phone under baby as they are restless (making sure mom and dad are ok with it!) and ta-da: a hand held noise machine!

Everlance:: This app keeps track of the miles I’ve used and can write off for business purposes.  It is seriously amazing.  I had Mile Tracker (which is a similar app) but for some reason, just liked this one more.  There is an annual fee that you pay to track your miles, but I have found it completely worth it.  I am notified when I have not tracked miles and at the end of the week, month and year.

Uber:: I mainly use this app when working in the city or on vacation.  I feel like Uber has changed the way I travel and think of traveling through the city!!

Pay Pal:: I do take a few credit card payments from clients and when I do, I use this app to send and track payments.

My Radar:: A free app that I have found to be super accurate when tracking weather on a wedding day (ore really any day).

PicTapGo:: From the founders of Totally Rad Actions, PicTapGo is a quick way for me to edit the photos taken on my phone when I add them to Instagram or Facebook.  There is a small fee for this app, but again, I know the software and I love it!

Snapchat:: Now I am not a huge user of snapchat, but one thing I love, and so do my kids, and probably most kids are their fun filters.  Have a hard kid when doing a family session, help them warm up by putting some fun filters on and making them laugh ( of  course when after checking with mom and dad!)

Tiny Scanner:: Another free app I use when needing to send and scan documents to clients.  Simply use the app to take a photo and whammo, you have a PDF ready to go out to your client!  Unless you are able to upgrade, you can only keep 2 documents in the program (kind of a downer).

Google Maps:: Way better than the maps app that comes with the phone (in my humble opinion). Google maps is more up to date and helps me to know where to go and that I am on the fastest route!

HootSuite:: This is my last and favorite app.  Hootsuite lets you schedule out all social media posts in advance.  I mainly use this app when I am on vacation, but want to maintain consistency when posting to social media sites.  A notification is sent and simply swipe to post.  The downside is that it still does take some time to do unless you upgrade to auto scheduling (something I am contemplating). You still have to go into your notification and copy and paste to your social media site, but can still write out in advance what you would like to say rather than spending time thoughout the day thinking about it!

Have any other great apps that you like?  Please share, I always finding ones that will make my days more seamless and easier!

    Highlighted Vendor:: Megan Mary Events

Continuing on with highlighting vendors this season, I want to bring your attention to a sweet and wonderful planner I met last year.  Megan and I worked on a styled shoot together this past week (I can not wait to share more of this!) as well as a styled shoot last fall.  She is a wonderful person and planner.  If you are looking to us a planner for your upcoming wedding, either day of or for the full process, look into using Megan Mary Events.  She is phenomenal and will not disappoint!

I asked her a few questions regarding her business and below are her answers!

What 3 words describe your work?
    Practical. Pretty. Planned.

How long have you been in business?
I have had my own business, Megan Mary Events, for 2.5 years now.

Why or how did you get started in your industry?
I have always loved parties and events. I started as a banquet server in high school and my love for the industry grew from there. In college I coordinate a few banquets and that’s when I realized that I had a knack for the project management of large scale parties. Weddings are such elaborate events, it only made sense to dive in and find out what the need was on the project management and coordination aspect of them. I assisted a couple different planners in the Twin Cities before branching out on my own.

    What have weddings taught you?
Weddings have taught me that nothing in life will ever go completely as planned – there are so many moving pieces, so many small details. It’s all about how you plan for those type of hiccups and then the grace that you have to get through them and move on.

Best or worst wedding advice you received when you got married (if you are married!)
Your Mom is your friend, don’t be mean to her in the planning process! Also, remember that times have changed since she has been married – so her ideas about how the day will go and the cost of it may be a little off.

    What is your style?
My style is modern-traditional. What does that mean? Truthfully, I just made that term up. I love traditional aspects of weddings but I also love when the couple puts their own touches on the day. Personalization is SO trendy right now and for good reason – it helps the guests get in to your life and brings your personalities out for your wedding day.

What is the best thing you have seen happen on a wedding day?
The best thing I have seen on a wedding day… It’s been more than once but I love when the couple’s families are friends and get along like they have known each other forever. And totally cliche, but I love when a groom cries while his bride walks down the aisle to him.

What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
I love using Pinterest as a starting point for a vision. Otherwise, I will often see an outfit someone is wearing or a few cool decor pieces at Home Goods. Those real world experiences are really where a lot of my inspiration comes from.

What’s your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
Sometimes on wedding days I put in 20,000+ steps, my feet are tired and my brain feels like mush. The morning after an event I love waking up to sunshine, enjoying an espresso on my deck and putting my feet up. I also often enjoy leftover flowers from the event the night before – that’s such a fun perk at the end of the night, getting some flowers to enjoy that week!

What sets you apart in your industry or what do your clients say about you?
I always have an assistant planner on the day of an event. It’s so important to have an extra set of hands – we don’t always know where we might be needed on the day of a wedding! Also, I am very creative and can help with decor, I love playing around with pieces that you want to have together but aren’t quite sure how to lay them out.

Advice you would give to newly engaged couples.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s one day… Of course you want you and your guests to have a great time but remember that the money you spend now, you won’t have later.

      May Mini Sessions

It is that time of the year again when spring is in the air and sessions are being booked!  This year I will be doing two different sessions.  The first is a GREAT gift to give mommas for Mother’s day; a photo shoot of the mommy’s and their children.  Dads you are welcome to jump in these photos, but I will be teaming up with a florist to bring some floral crowns to add to the session.  Morning and afternoon sessions are available.  The second will be for families and will take place in the afternoon.  These sessions tend to book quickly, so if you are interested, please let me know! I can’t wait to see your family!
