Springfield Family:: An outdoor winter session

Cold. Yes, that is what it was, especially when you are only home from a 6 month trip to New Zealand!  Seeing the Springfields and photographing them was incredible.  Over the last 6 months one of their children, and at one time one of my assistants, Rebekah, was in New Zealand, so coming home to the arctic tundra and standing outdoors for an hour was not exactly pleasant! But they were great sports and rolled with it!  In the process, we got some fabulous photos!  Can I just say I love this family?! If you are looking to utilize the winter months and are in need of photos, I would love to connect!

Red Thread Session:: Val and Brent

How were you introduced to adoption?
One of Brent’s younger cousins was adopted, so adoption was always part of his life and a way to build a family.

How did you know adoption was for you?
We always knew we would adopt a child, but we decided to start with adoption to grow our family. Now, we know it’s the only way for us!

Tell me about your adoption journey.
We were prepared a very long wait, but we were selected within a few months. We didn’t have a lot of stuff ready to go for a nursery, but we loved learning the ropes as parents quickly and being surrounded by our friends and family to help us along in those first few months. We hope to repay the favor someday!

    How has adoption changed you?
Adoption made us parents. It opened us up to new extended family and a new community of families who have been through this process. It made us more flexible and adaptable to change.

What is the most rewarding aspect of adoption?
Being an open book for people interested in adoption, or even intrigued about adoption and never knew who to talk to. We like to be open about our experience with people to ensure adoption is always a positive word and dispel any negative connotation, because adoption is beautiful.

What do you wish people knew about adoption?
In the beginning, you may think you want a more closed adoption, but after you go through the process you will likely change and want more contact with your child’s birthparents and be even more open. It’s a beautiful process.

What are some of the greatest resources that you have used in the adoption process?
People. Find a group of adoptive families and ask advice. Find a good agency that you trust and know will provide great services to the expected or birthparents.

Ten (more) things you might not know about me

Onward with the year!  I have done a few other of these posts so click HERE and HERE and then you will know 30 more things about me!!  Happy Friday!!

      1. I am very tactile in that I love writing everything down, and I am one of those crazy people that still writes checks because I love the art of writing it! (Seriously, not practical though!)
      2. Although I do not like the cold at all, I am growing to like it more, or at least come to terms with it in that it grants me a season of rest, which I so desperately need during the year!
      3. I love meal planning.  I even have a chart for it, and as you can imagine, I write it all down!
      4. I’m on my second wedding ring and engagement ring.  It was a 10 year anniversary present from my amazing husband, and I still love it!
      5. I once ran through a train yard with friends in Paris.  Ask me the story and I would love to tell you.  It still freaks me out and makes me laugh all at the same time.
      6. I am a stuffer.  With junk.  While you might think my house is clean, please don’t ever look in the drawers.  I hate seeing the clutter, so I stuff everything.  In this season I plan to go through each area of my house and am using THIS website and worksheet for help.
      7. I hate a messy sink.
      8. Spelling is not my strong suit.  I’m sure if you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that this is true.  Feel free to call me out if you see a spelling error, I never take offense to it! At this point in time I am just owning the fact that I am not good at it and spell check sometimes can not even find the words I am trying to spell.  It is just plain hilarious!
      9. When I was growing up I had just about every kind of pet you can imagine.  My sister loved animals so we had fish, a cat, a dog, hamsters and guinea pigs, and just about all at the same time. We do not have animals in the Feder home now.  I blame it on my crazy dog named Reggie.  Ask me about him any time.
      10. My first fully paid wedding was in International Falls, MN on December 23rd in 2001.

Mike and Molly:: Centennial Lakes Engagement Session

It was clear that when I met Mike and Molly I knew we would get along well.  Free flowing conversation, talk of loving summer and all around kind people, their winter engagement session was another indication of how well we got along.  They brought their sweet little Corkie, Fulton, and he only added to the fun of their winter engagement session.  I simply can not wait to see them again in August when it will be nice and HOT and we won’t be scrambling to get back into warm coats!!

          Minneapolis Family:: Brosis Family

It has been a joy to photograph the Brosis family for years!  From the time they just had one, until today, I love being able to see return clients like this sweet family! We tried to do an outdoor session, but it just did not work, thus we were able to find a day that worked for all of us and headed to Minneapolis for some photos in Mill City!  I’m so glad we did as we had much happier faces and were so much warmer!
