My Favorite Places to Shoot:: Elm Creek Park Reserve

Happy Friday everyone!!  Fall is in the air and so are the thoughts of family photos and (dare I say…Christmas Cards!!)  As I write this, I certainly cringe, because if you know me at all, I am not a huge fan of cold weather.  I prefer it nice and sticky.  I know, I know, I am definitely living in the wrong state!!

All that said, one of the things I LOVE about Minnesota is the fall and the fall colors.  September and October are FULL of color all over the state and there are SO many places within the Cities to capture your family and the beauty of fall.  (HINT-if you have not booked your family session yet, I still have a few openings!!)

One of my very favorite places, not only because it is close to my home, but because it is huge, is Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove.  The Maples are glorious and there are tons and tons of places to shoot. I typically start at the chateau, which has stairs, paths, a great building, and then make my way with clients to a part of the park that is less traveled to capture more of the fields and dirt paths.

It is just one of the many places in the Twin Cities that is just so beautiful!

Happy Friday!!

Interested in a family session. Our 4th grandchild is due the end of October so would like to wait until November. Any suggestions? Live in Maple Grove. (Dan and Erin Welter are my son/daughter-in-law, so that is how I am familiar with your work.)

Real life: Week one

I wanted a challenge a way to keep me accountable to actually uploading and putting all my photos from my phone onto my computer and then actually organizing them!!  I decided to put a project to it and after seeing numerous posts on other blogs, took the idea and ran with it.  So here is my challenge to you as well as myself, every Friday, upload all those wonderful photos you take of your family, your pets, events, cool things from the week and LOAD them to your computer or hard drive and have some fun with them!  I am putting myself to the test and putting it out there for you, internet, to hold me accountable to!

So without further adu, here is my week ranging from spring break, meeting my newest niece, dinner with my in-laws, dying Easter eggs, a youth event, and a spring run!  What did you do?!

Have a great weekend!!

    Summer lovin

I know, I know.  We are not quite into summer, but here in MN it sure feels like it!  Kevin and I talk with his family a lot about how we Minnesotans talk about the weather all. the. time.  If you live here, you know why.  The weather affects us on a daily basis.  It can change at the turn of a dime and go from super hot and sticky, to cold and rainy.  Our plans revolve around it and our moods change because of it.  The other day, I was basking in the warmth of the sun and thinking about how much I love summer, and saw a blog post coming to fruition.  Here are some of my top favorite things about summer, not just the physical items, but because of what they represent.

The red bag: This wonderful free bag I scored one year at the state fair holds all our sand toys.  The beach is one of our favorite places in the summer.  I remember as a kid, my mom taking us to the beach on a weekly basis.  I am trying to instill that love for the water into my kids too.

Salads! Cooking becomes minimal in the Feder home during the summer.  Grilling and salads take the place of soups and pasta.

Tank tops:  My crazy closet becomes alive with my favorite summer top.  Begrudging thinking about dressing the kids in sweats, shoes and socks, and bulky coats just to go to the gorcery store is replaced by the ease of putting on a tank and shorts and slipping on flip flops.  What was once a 10 minute task, now becomes a 2 minute hit!

Sunscreen.  Replacing my make up with only sunscreen brings joy to my heart.

The Purple Plastic Pool.  I blogged about this crazy pool before, but really what this pool represents is the youth of my kids, and the constant joy that they bring me throughout the summer.  A pool that my kids have totally outgrown continues to be used for all things ranging from a pool for the Polly pockets, a car wash for the matchbox cars, a bathtub when thy pretend to play dogs, and a resource to pull from when daddy needs to be splashed with water.

What are some of your favorites about summer?  I’d love to hear them!  Bring them all on, we in Minnesota are ready to love on you summer!!

    • Kar! Love this post! Summer is such a fun, freeing time–especially with young kids. I made a list of all the fun things I want to do with the kids this summer for those days when I need ideas (http://www.lundeenscene.com/2012/05/summer-dreams.html) but some of my favs are: throw water balloons, host a cousin campout, go to the splash pad, bike to the drive-in for dinner, build a sand castle, make homemade jam, watch a movie in the park and wade in the waterfall in Osceola. Hope to see you and your kids lots this summer!

      Happy 4th!

I love the 4th of July!  It represents not only the freedom that we are able to have in this country, but as a Minnesotan, the joyous days of heat!   So I will be enjoying the day with lots family, friends, watermelon, and some sprinkler time with my kids!  Hope your day is joyous and wet!
