Mini Session or Full Session? What’s the difference?

Mini Session, full session, what’s the difference and why or how is one better for your family?

I’m so glad you asked!  This is a question I regularly get asked about and I would love to share with you some of my thoughts and things I have learned over the years about mini sessions and why they may (or may not) be a good fit for your family.

When a photographer refers to a mini session, most of the time they are referring to smaller session (15-30 minutes) that happen a few times a year, with the main focus being on capturing one main pose, say a family shot for a Holiday card, a milestone of a child or even an updated headshot.  Depending on the ages of your kids and your expectation of photos, mini sessions can be a great way to get those few pictures that you are looking for at a reasonable cost in short amount of time.

If you are wanting multiple outfit changes, a few different locations, or have kiddos that take a while to warm up to new people, a full session might be better for you and your family.

Also, mini sessions typically happen in the location that the photographer chooses.  (This is true of myself) and there are multiple families coming to that one location every 30 minutes for the day.

If you are wanting to choose your own location or have the photographer come to your home to capture more of your family in their element, my suggestion would be to do a full session.

Mini sessions can be a wonderful thing, and many of my clients rave about how quick they are especially when they have little people.  Husbands love them as well because they appease their wives and 25 minutes goes by when they are having fun and playing with their kids and of course, kissing their wives!

If you are interested in a full or mini session, I’d love to chat.  I am offering seven different mini session dates in 2018 and would love to get your family on the calendar!  If all of these book, I may add more, but if you are a planner, now is the time to scoop these up! Minneapolis Family:: Fronden Family

    Doesn’t running around in Minneapolis sound wonderful right now?  Or at least going back to those warm days of fall when no coats, hats, or boots were needed? Well go back with me today with the sweet Fronden family.  Karna has been one of my dear friends since college and from the time she and her husband were engaged, I have been doing photos for them every year!  This year was such a sweet one as their girls are getting so big!  I love seeing them and as you look through these photos, you can see their sweet personalities shining through!

      Nagel Family:: Minneapolis Family

      Oh I love this sweet Minneapolis family!  A few years ago I was able to capture their wedding day and after their first sweet girl was born, I photographed her as well as her sister when she was born! Braving the cold, this sweet family met me at Hanson’s Tree farm in Anoka and they did not disappoint!  We all kept warm while running through the trees and playing together!  I love seeing sweet wedding clients again with their families and watching them grow over the years!  If you are looking for a family session, I would love to get you on the calendar soon!

        Bailey Family:: St. Paul Studio Session

        The St. Paul studio is coming to be one of my very favorite places to photograph in the winter months.  It is warm and full of beautiful light.  There is also the option of doing photos along the St. Paul streets and off street unpaid parking. Let’s just say all things are beautiful about it! So when the Bailey family asked about doing their session indoors, I was thrilled.  Their 9 year old twins came in and we became fast friends.  Funny and spunky, they were so easy to work with and photograph!  I hope to see this sweet family in the future and even utilize the studio again! Roseville Maternity Session:: Dickerson Family

          This sweet Roseville couple invited me into their home to do their maternity session as they prepare for their new baby girl to arrive soon!  We got extremely lucky when the forecast predicted snow and had a wonderful time playing with their sweet pooch!  I can not wait to share more with you after their sweet little one is born!
