St. Paul Family Session:: Broughton Family

Moving into a new home definately calls for a family session.  Sitting on the front porch of their new home, I celebrated with the Broughton family!  We even headed over to their favorite park in St. Paul for photos of her sweet boys playing and swinging.  If you are moving into your first home or a new home, might I suggest a family session to document this new transition?  Such a fun way to remember this sweet stage of life!

    What to wear for family sessions

    Happy fall to you, and with that, happy family photo time!  At this point in the year there are so many mommas asking me for clothing suggestions for family photos.  While I am no clothing expert, I have learned a few things along the way and want to share with you today four tips to choosing the type of clothing to wear for your family photos!

    1. This is the biggie and most important… As the momma, start with you.  Find the dress, jeans and jacket, t-shirt or style that YOU feel most comfortable in and feel confidant in and start there.  Often times we choose what our kids want to wear and work around them, but most of the time, kids are pretty flexible in what they want to wear, so choose that outfit you love the most and then work everyone around you.
    2. Bring in the accessories!  You can make any dark blue shirt better by adding a jean jacket, gold neckace or scarf to the mix.  Add in earrings, bangles and shoes to add your flair to the photos.  I will preface this with thinking about your kiddos too.  (In as much as we love dolling them up, be aware that if your toddler hates headbands, chances are she won’t keep it in for the photo, so it might be wise to forget it and elivate the stress!)
    3. Stay away from too much matching.  Gone are the days of denim shirts and kackki pants ( think 1999 and Gap ads!) Mixing and matching, adding plads and stripes , but not too many, and bringing in textures makes you pop in photos.
    4. Take tips from the clothing industry.  Step into any store these days and you will know the styles and colors that are on trend.  Jewel tones and neutrals photograph well against the green trees as well as the changing foliage that comes in October.
    5. If all else fails, Pinterest.

    Feel free to reach out as needed!  Again, I am no clothing expert, but I am happy to help and guide in any way I can as you prepare for your session.  I can’t wait to see so many of you this fall!

      Minneapolis Senior Session:: Betsy Class of 2019

      It was a bittersweet session.  I have known Betsy since she was a mere 8 year old.  Her big sister baby-sat our kids, I photographed her brother and sister’s weddings and photographed senior sessions and family sessions along the way of her and her siblings growing up.

      Now Betsy, the baby of her family, graduates from High School this year.  Her mom, myself and Betsy wandered the streets of Minneapolis through a rain shower and then into a beautiful evening sunset. We laughed a lot, caught up on life and just enjoyed our time together. It really is amazing how fast time goes.  We all blinked and the kids grew up.

      Betsy is truly an amazing person and I look forward to watching her continue to grow into the amazing woman she has become!

        If you have been following me for any time you know every December I run a give-away where one lucky family wins a free full session and images, one for their family and one to give away!  Pam and her family won this session this past year and it was so good to meet her!  She came all the way from the middle of Wisconsin to spend the weekend in the great city of St. Paul.  What a joy and honor it is for me to bless individuals with these sessions each year!  Stay tuned if you follow me on my social pages as I will be running this give-away again in December!! For today, may your screen be filled with the lovely Smith family!

          Winge Maternity Session:: Minneapolis Session

          Bring on all those new little babies!  Ashley and I met a few years back through a mutual friend and there was only Ava involved.  Elsie joined their family last year and this year we celebrate another sweet little one being added to the Winge family.  Stay tuned for more of his newborn session, but for now, here are some sweet maternity shots I was able to get of this family this summer!
