New (FREE) Actions

To most people this may be a really boring post, but for those of you who are photographers (or those of you that just like to pretend you are), this post is for you!  For those raising your eyebrows and just wondering, what the heck is an action, let me help.

The process the photo goes though before reaching a client’s wall can actually take a many steps in Photoshop or Lightroom or whatever editing system the photographer decides to use.  This can be an extremely long process especially when going though thousands of images.  Changing the contrast, the brightness, the color or the sharpness of a photo are all things that are looked at.  Because time is something we would all like more of, actions can be used.  These are the strenuous steps made simple of creating an image the way that it was envisioned on the day of the shoot and can save hours of time!

Because I am constantly looking for actions, and ways to make my time more time-efficient, I wanted to share a site that brought me more actions, and even better, they were FREE.  Check out Pure Photoshop Actions for a few more days.  Like them on Facebook and get your set.  Happy editing!

Here is one of my favorite little toddlers from a session last year.  Action names are below.

Going from left to right:

1) Photo shot out of Camera  2) Golden Sunset 3) Easy Peasy BW baby 4) Lookin Sharp  5)  No Ordinary Slumber  6) Pure Pink 7) Pure Pop  8) Warm and Soft Light

Vegas and Organizations

So… every year I yearn to go to the ever coveted Wedding Photographer’s convention (WPPI) in Vegas, and have not been able to go yet once!  Way too hard to leave my husband with 3 small kids and a full time job.  Just not possible yet.  So… this year I decided to join a Twin Cities organization (TCPPA) that meets on a monthly basis, which might be even better ( and easier) for me at this point in life!

The first meeting was last Monday, and I was just floored to find out that some of my favorite East Coast photographer’s ( Justin and Mary) were presenting.  I was able to get in on a 6 hour presentation on exactly what I am aiming for in business this year.  Relationships.  It was perfect timing and a great night to be a part of!  I can not wait for more of the year to progress and to learn more from these locally talented photographers!

In the mean time, I, like the rest of you Minnesotans, will be shoveling my way out of this crazy mess of snow and waiting for the days when Vegas will become a reality!

Happy Monday!

    Happy Planning!

I have been meeting with many brides for the last few weeks who are in that wonderful, creative, and overwhelming stage of planning their weddings.  I follow a few wonderful planning sites that are amazing at keeping up with the trends while showing off numerous weddings and ideas.  As overwhelming as it can be, each wedding I have shot, and looked at, is completely unique to the two beautiful individuals being married that day.  If you are in that stage, enjoy every second of it.  Seven years after planning my own, I am still in love with the many artistic ideas that are out there!

    Happy planning!

UPDATE:  Wow, I was chosen as one of the winners.  See all the other jumpin winners HERE

      “Interest in photography”

It was a prayer that I never even prayed, but the Lord knew.  He knew life with 3 kids had been extremely fast and knew the work load would be more than I could  have imagined for this season of life.   He knew my hatred for entering receipts for tax purposes and organizing them, and knew how much I enjoy teaching and talking the language of photography.

And then it came.  The e-mail titled: “Interest in Photography.”

I was thrilled that she would even think of me, and actually honored and humbled that she would even think of me.  She told me she had been following my fan page on facebook and was extremely interested in interning with me for a semester to get her feet wet in the world pf photography.  So we exchanged a few e-mails, met and there was a instant connection.

I have been EXTREMLY blessed this season.

Lauren is a senior at Bethel college and is pursuing a degree in Media communications and a minor in studio art.  We met briefly in 2007 when I was shooting her brother and sister-in-law’s wedding.  I have loved having her come and have been very impressed with her character and work ethic.  She has joyfully taken on challenges, and been a student that is ready to learn, even tax preparations!

I love the idea of internships and apprenticeships.  I was an intern for a Time/ Life documentary photographer even before I started shooting weddings, and I learned so much more than college or labs could teach me.  It is something I would strongly recommend for any budding photographer who really wants to learn what the field is all about.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU Lauren for all the work that you have done and continue to do.  You are truly a gift from God.

PS.  Check out her Blog HERE, makes me so proud!

Our “mini” shoot in my front yard!  (Just so I could blog about her!)

Break time at the last wedding we shot together.Lauren with her family in 2007, when we first met.

Lauren is great!!! When Mark and I worked with the youth group at Crystal Free Church she was in our “small group”. It’s so crazy when you know 2 different people from completely different places and then they end up meeting and working together! 🙂

Happy Easter!! He has risen indeed!!
