Lang Family:: Roseville Family Session

It is always a gift to see past clients, especially the where you know their heart story about their family.  I absolutely love the Lang family, their hearts and their baby!  It was a gift for me to document this beautiful stage for them, and they are even so kind and brought me a coffee to end my session with!  Loads of heart eyes for this family!

    Reflections:: Friday Nights

    Before we had kids, Friday nights were so much fun.  We would grab dinner somewhere in the city, trying out a nw restaurant, walk around talking about our day, stay in for a movie night or just shoot the breeze.

    These nights completely changed once we had kids.  We struggled to find a baby-sitter or even find the energy to go out and stay awake!

    Now we are slowly able to get back into enjoying Friday nights again as our kids become teenagers.  Sometimes we all as a family head out to eat, or Kevin and I get a date night in while our oldest baby-sits. It is crazy to think that we are at this stage of life, but let me tell you, it is pretty great.

    Happy Friday to you in whatever you are doing!

      Nate and Marisa:: Minneapolis Engagement Session

      The Stone Arch Bridge.

      Iconic of Minneapolis and a beautiful place for engagement photos.  Getting there on a cold day where nothing is happening downtown is even better!  Less people to deal with and a completely free bridge and downtown area to walk around!

      For Marisa and Nate, this was the perfect day!  They brought along their pooch and together we explored our favorite city!  I simply can not wait to photograph their November wedding, who knows, we may get a day just like this one, or one with temps in the 60’s!  Either way, I can not wait to document their day… you may also see their pooch making a debut there too!

        Where to do your Spring Family Session

        It is coming.

        I promise, spring is on its way! With that, comes the beauty of everything new and GREEN!!  Spring can be a beautiful, but a tricky time to photograph in.  As a photographer, I have trained my eyes to see colors of light throughout the year.  The colors of the sun and all things during the months of March, April and the first part of May have more greenish- yellow and pastel tone to them.

        Minneapolis Spring family session by Karen Feder Photography www.karenfederphotography.comThis is because there are no green leaves or green grass for the light to reflect off of.  There are also no leaves on the trees, so less shade to be in when the sun is shining, which in turn can create squinty eyes and shadows everywhere.

        Spring is still a beautiful season to photograph in, but knowing where and when to be photographed can make photos even better.  So here are some of my suggestions::

        1. Have your session early or late in the day to catch the sunrise or sunset light.
        2. If you have to do a session during the daytime hours (because of naps or other reasons) I would suggest finding a location that has constant shade available.
        3. If you love the flowers of the season and your schedule allows, have your session in the later weeks of May.Minneapolis Spring family session by Karen Feder Photography www.karenfederphotography.com

        Some great spots that I can recommend in the Cities::

        1. Lake Harriet Rose and Japanese Gardens
        2. Como Park in St. Paul
        3. Interstate Park
        4. Minnehaha Falls (late in the afternoon)

        Hope that helps, bring on SPRING!!

          New Beginning Styled Shoot

          The inspiration for this styled shoot started with the Pantone Color of the Year – Greenery and new beginnings. Weddings are definitely a new beginning for couples – starting your life as a team, looking forward to the future and the growth that goes with that. Along with the greenery came the idea of a springtime backdrop for a wedding in Excelsior, MN – a town that really comes alive in the spring and gets really lively during the summer!

          It was the perfect location for such a shoot. Pique Travel provides a historic look at the small town, giving lots of natural colors and details. The wood from Lyman Lumber built in the 1940’s provided a warm but urban feel.  All the touches from the original metal rooftop, wood floors and rolling buffet were brought in to make the whole building feel cohesive. Using local vendors was a must, as each of the creative spirits from around the small town brought their own artistic abilities to the collaboration.
