White Bear Lake Yacht Club Wedding:: Heather and Greg

Today I’m heading back to the archives to a wedding that wasn’t published. Back in 2018, I had the joy of photographing Heather and Greg and their intimate wedding day.

Being a doctor doesn’t afford much time for dating, so when Heather and Greg met online, and connected right away, the two knew that their relationship might be going somewhere. The two dated long distance for about a year when Greg popped the question and Heather answered with a resounding yes!

The two were wed in St. Paul on an early September morning. The rain held off for most of the day, but the chill of the fall was upon all of us. After the ceremony we headed to the Como Conservatory for photos in their lush outdoor gardens and then over to White Bear Lake Yacht Club. A fire roared as appetizers and wine were passed around to the guests. Heather and Greg managed a few photos along the stunning shoreline and then made their way inside for an incredible meal, conversation and joyous celebration

Heather and Greg, it was an honor to document your day and I wish you both so much joy and happiness.

Ceremony:: House of Hope Presbyterian Church; Reception:: White Bear Yacht Club; Wedding Dress:: The Wedding Shoppe; Transportation:: Stillwater Trolley Company ; Men’s Ware:: Men’s Warehouse

St. Paul Hotel Wedding:: Nikki and Jeff

When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade… even if it means rescheduling your wedding numerous times like Nikki and Jeff did. Living apart in different states, Jeff in Michigan and Nikki here in Minnesota, the couple tried to get married in the spring of 2020, but we all know how Covid took over and prevented weddings from happening. They tried again in the summer, but had conflicts with schedules and then put the date of November 5th on the calendar which turned out to be the most beautiful weekend in November Minnesota has had in a long time.

The couple were wed at the beautiful St. Paul hotel among a small group of family and friends. They chose to do their first look in Rice Park and then we used the entire are of Rice Park for photos. Because it was a Thursday afternoon, we had the park to ourselves and the sun setting behind the buildings provided the warm backdrop that only that fall sun can provide.

Nikki’s dress was perfectly form fitting and her veil, a cathedral length veil, provided for some incredible shots. Her brightly colored flowers were some of her favorites and paired well with the ensamble.

What a great day it was to celebrate with you Nikki and Jeff! Cheers to finally getting your wedding day, a beautiful one at that, and a life well spent together!

Josh & Olivia:: Red Wing Wedding

Love always comes when you least expect it and for Josh and Olivia that was exactly the case. The nurse who was enjoying life did not expect to meet the 911 dispatcher, but it was just the way these two met one another when Josh asked Olivia to Cat Coffee. They ended up talking until the shop closed and both knew that this would be something more than just a coffee date.

After dating for four years, July 31st came around and Josh knew that it was the day to propose. Because the two love taking photos of their adventures together, Josh put together a grouping of Polariad’s taken from the dates the two had gone on together through the years and used them as clues to get Olivia on the scavenger hunt of her life. He started with the first clue at the couples parents homes. The second clue was at Cat Cafe. The third at United Hospital where they both work, and the last and final clue brought Olivia to an airport in Crystal. The couple jumped on a plane, and flew to Duluth where Olivia’s aunt (who was working closely with Josh on the proposal) set up a beautiful picnic inside Enger Park in Duluth. When the couple arrived, Josh got down on one knee and asked Olivia to marry him!

Olivia and Josh really wanted a winter wedding and because of that knew that their wedding day would look a little different because of Covid restrictions. They decided to do a small and intimate wedding with only family and a few friends present. They rented a beautiful VRBO in Red Wing and were wed in a small white church in the country on one of the coldest day’s of the year.

It was beautiful day for a wedding and both Josh and Olivia were so easy going and went back in forth inside and out, even though the temps were below freezing. We were able to capture so much of this historic Red Wing site with its beauty and grace. Olivia’s bridesmaids, all family, wore dusty blue dresses and carried sprigs of green, white and blue in their bouquets while Olivia wore a simple white dress with capped sleeves and a lace back.

Josh and Olivia, thank you for including me in your day. It was beautiful, congratulations!

        Ryan and Laura:: Plymouth Wedding

Ryan was visiting with friends from Brazil when they asked him if he was dating anyone. The software engineer from Idaho, said he wasn’t and his friends began to rattle out names of friends that they thought would be good for him when Laura’s name came up.

The Brazilian geologist wasn’t looking to date an American either, but the friends persisted and eventually introduced Ryan and Laura to one another over Facebook.

Being that Ryan speaks English and Laura Portuguese, the two communicated through Google Translate and after a few months of doing that, Ryan jumped on a plane to Brazil to meet Laura in person. He thought he might be crazy, but upon meeting Laura, his suspicions subsided and despite the language barrier, the two got along wonderfully and after dating for a while, they were engaged.

Their winter wedding day was beautiful.Balmy 30 degree weather gave us a reason to do all the photos outside and we even headed to Parker’s Lake for photos on the frozen water.

What a joy it was celebrating with the both of you. I wish you years of joy and happiness!

North Oaks Golf Club Wedding:: Brian and Kelsey

Each June, Brian and Kelsey go up to northern Minnesota to camp, followed by a stay in Duluth. In June of 2018, when the couple was in Duluth, they had just had dinner at a Japanese restaurant on Lake Avenue. Brian said it would a great idea to go down to the lift bridge one more time and walk down the pier to see the sunset. It was so much colder than both of us had planned for and the rain jackets they brought couldn’t withstand the wind, so they huddled together. Before deciding to head back to the hotel, they watched the sun go down. Brian stopped Kelsey before they went down the stairs and she thought he was tripping. As it turned out, he was getting down on one knee and pulling a ring box out of his pocket. Surprised and overjoyed Kelsey answered yes!

Their October wedding day was full of surprises. An early snowfall and unusually cold day did not keep us from being outside in the beautiful fall foliage. Kelsey and Brian were wed in the beautiful Church of Saint Pius X where Kelsey leads the church in music. Because the couple are both highly involved in lives of music, Kelsey an elementary music teacher and Brian a highly skilled music technician, there were beautiful pieces within their ceremony.

After the wedding, we headed to a beautiful park that Kelsey and Brian walk at frequently and was full of beautiful colored trees. Despite the weather, we managed couple and wedding party photos outdoors as their southern based bridesmaids were troopers amidst the cold!

North Oaks Golf Club provided a beautiful wedding space for the couple, and we were able to use many of the green space and side paths for wedding party photos.

What a wonderful October day it was, congratulations to both Kelsey and Brian!
