Friday Fun: My favorite places to shoot

Often when talking to clients, I am asked: “Where would you recommend we do the shoot?”  Although there are so many places in the Twin Cities to photograph, here are 3 of my favorites and why.

1) Mill City/ Stone Arch Bridge area.  You want urban, you got it.  You want park, its here too.  You want unique, let’s find it!  I have to say that this is one of the MOST popular ares in the Cities to shoot at.  Every time I am down in the area, I kid you not, there  is at least one other professional down there with a family, senior or wedding party.  And there is good reason for it… there are so many places to shoot in all within walking distance.

2) Loring Park/ Sculpture Gardens/ Walker.  Another place that has so many different areas all within walking distance.  Every time I go, I try to find another location to take my clients to, and I have not been disappointed yet.  It has an artsy feel, and there is an indoor conservatory and a the General Mills Hall in the Walker to go in just in case there is rain.   Plus, this location is about 10 minutes from my house.  LOVE it!

3) Your home.   When a child is in his/ her home environment they are just so much easier to photograph.  They want to show you their toys and their room and the cute little dress or animal that grandma just bought them.  Plus trying to get out the door keeping everyone clean and neat for photos is sometimes very difficult (we have 3; been there, done that ).  Couples are sweet and beautiful in the space that they created and more of their personality shines through. Basically it is YOU!  and that is what I love photographing.

I’d love to do a shoot for you in one of these locations.  Let me know, especially while the Fall sale is going on!

    Muehleck Family

Sarah and Chris started out as clients, but now I consider friends.  It has been wonderful to see these two as a couple then grow to be parents of 2 beautiful blondie boys.  We had an extremely hot day to photograph family photos on, and I have to say, I was so impressed with these kids.  I walked them all over Como Park, and they continued smiling through the entire session.  Here are a few favorites from the session!

And the vast difference between boys and girls: forget smelling the flowers, DESTROY them!

        Cherry Blossom Pie

Kim and Kristine are from the Minneapolis area, but are both living out of state and very far away from each other.  For sisters  (twins!), I can only imagine that this is tough, especially when there are cousins involved!  Kristine has been following me on the blog, and said she’d be up from Florida wanting photos of their families together.   Kim’s daughter whipped up a batch of Cherry Blossom Pie for me as we went through the shoot.  I was thrilled, not only with her creativity, but with the way this entire family welcomed me into their home.

And of course I could not leave without bringing in the grandparents with all their beautiful grandchildren!

Beautiful photos and beautiful idea. I wish more people did this kind of thing. Extended family all together. Love it! The pie sounds great too!

I will never forget that Cherry Blossom Pie…you have no idea how blessed I feel that you were able to capture moments of my kids and my niece and nephew that I wouldn’t have! With not seeing them very often, every moment is so important and every picture reminds me of something special that the kids bring into my life…thank you, thank you:)

        Lee Family: Minneapolis Family

Soon to be Cincinnati Family, which actually makes me very sad.   Julie and I met long ago in a mom’s group and since then have remained friends.  She is such a wonderful example to me a shining, glowing, patient, and kind mother of 3 under 3.  May she be blessed!

She bought bright yellow balloons and surprised the kids when we started the shoot.  (A great idea for future families!!)  We had a wonderful time downtown and her kiddos were so excited.  Best of luck to all of you as you continue on in life’s journey, you will truly be missed!
