the custom hotel

Yes, I know who blogs about at hotel!?  And here I go.  The last day in CA we stayed in LA at this super funky hotel called the Custom Hotel (see web site HERE, and their web-site photos are waaaay better than mine).

We walked into the lobby and I knew my husband had chosen this place for me.  As soon as we entered our room, I snatched out my camera and told Kevin to huddle in the corner while I tried to capture the ambiance of the room.  It reminded me of the Walker Art center in Minneapolis, it was just so funky; I mean, dog comforters?!  So cool!

If you are flying out of LAX in the new future, consider this wonderfully modern hotel!

I want my shampoo bottles to look and smell like this!

Happy Friday!

    Happy Planning!

I have been meeting with many brides for the last few weeks who are in that wonderful, creative, and overwhelming stage of planning their weddings.  I follow a few wonderful planning sites that are amazing at keeping up with the trends while showing off numerous weddings and ideas.  As overwhelming as it can be, each wedding I have shot, and looked at, is completely unique to the two beautiful individuals being married that day.  If you are in that stage, enjoy every second of it.  Seven years after planning my own, I am still in love with the many artistic ideas that are out there!

    Happy planning!

      The Scaletta Family

You might recognize this beautiful couple from one of my destination weddings, See HERE.  Truth be told, they are also some of our wonderful friends.  Vince and my husband went to Northwestern together and about 2 years ago we met his fiancee, Amanda.  We all gelled immediately and last January they were married in Chicago.  Three weeks later they found out that baby Luca would be making his entrance to the world in only 8 months!

When they told us they would be coming up to Minnesota, we were thrilled, especially Lydia!  ( She was enthralled by Amanda and her beautiful dress last year and not only did she pretend to be “Amanda the bride” for 2 months after the wedding, she got Elise into the game by making her be “Vince the groom”.  Little did my 2 year old know that she was cast for being the guy; she could have cared less!)

On the last day of their visit we planned a session around Minneapolis, and I have to say, Luca was one of the cutest, huggable, lovable, squeezable 3 month old’s I have worked with!  I was thrilled to play peek-a-boo and get a belly laugh out of him. He is such a happy baby!  Thank you Scaletta’s for making the treck up, we love you all so very much.

      • Karen, these are some of the best family photos you’ve posted! They are so good! And she does NOT look like she just had a baby 3 months ago, right? *sigh* 🙂
        What a cute family!

I just can’t stop smiling at Luca’s chubby face in these pictures! So precious; Thanks for capturing him so well! What a fun weekend to remember through these photos… can’t wait to see you guys again!

      • […] (short, but sweet!), but we were able to get some 9 month photos of their little guy.  See HERE for his 3 month […]

      Destination Weddings- part 3

In 2009, Chicago was on the radar for Kevin and I.  This time the entire family was able to head out to visit family and friends.  Vince is actually one of Kevin’s best friends, so for me to shoot this Italian wedding was a huge honor.  My girls loovved watching Amanda coming down the aisle in her princess dress and my oldest was memorized during the first dance.  The couple actually headed out the following day to do some great city shots.  Props to them for braving the January cold!

      Destination Weddings- part 2

In 2008, Kevin and I were blessed again by this super spunky and fun couple to head out to New York City to shoot this destination wedding.  I actually shot Shannon’s  senior photos after graduating from high school and she promised me that one day I would be able to shoot her wedding.  5 years later, I was able to!  Unfortunately, it POURED the entire day.  Despite the water, we headed downtown anyway and braved the weather with umbrellas and much fun!  More to come tomorrow (Yes, Shannon, this one is for you!)
