Winner #1; the Smith family

“I just checked my Google Reader and scanned your blog, as I do almost everyday (I’ve been “stalking” your blog for quite awhile now ), and almost jumped out of my skin when I saw that I was one of your winners!!! I’m SO EXCITED!!”

Jen’s words when she found out that she was one of the birthday winners.  (See Here for more info)  I was more than thrilled to do their family shoot because we had actually met many moths before when they were visiting our church up in Elk River.  it was wonderful to reconnect with them and to see how her son had grown and to meet here baby!

We found the CUTEST candy stores and photographed on one of the most beautiful days of the month so far.  All that equaled fun, sugar and happy kiddos!  Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.

    i heart faces-bundled up

We here in MN are wanting to forget the snow and the cold temps, especially with a week peaking over 60! A good reminder that only 2 weeks ago, my front yard was covered in the white stuff.  Now, slowly but surely the buds are making their way out of the hibernation phase, and so are all the Minnesotans!

Here is a photo of my 3 year old, before she came to me covered in mud and dirt!

    Linder Family

I absolutely love meeting new people, and love forming relationships with them.  Laura and my sister were in a wedding together last year and she remembered that Lindsay said her sister was a photographer (thank you to all my amazing family members, they are walking billboards for me!).  Laura called me up to try and get in on the Feb. promo and she ended up taking my last spot!

Her little Sophia was a dream to work with.  When I got to the Linder home, this little one year old, was walking around with a purse in one hand and sunglasses in another.  Definitely girlie!  She showed me a bunch of her toys and her cat and we ended up with some fabulous photos in the process of just another Saturday at home.

Thanks Tim and Laura for inviting me into your lives.  You were both so great to work with.  ( I wanted to end with this one becuase I loved the way Tim and Laura were getting Sophia to laugh, they were such a huge help!)

Great pictures Karen. I love the one with Sophia with her sunglasses and clutch purse! Even the one of just Tim & I is wonderful! Thank you so much!

You are an excellent photographer. You can tell by the photos that you have but your subjects at ease and comfort. You have really come into their lives. I love the one of just Sophia with her pearls, the black and white of the side of her beautiful face and the family reading. They are all special. Good luck to you….

    Madison- 3 months

When I walked into Afton’s home, immediately I knew we would get along well.  Besides having a perfect, beautiful, little subject to photograph, she had this AMAZING yellow wall to photograph against. It brightened up a late winter day and made me extremely happy!  I was so excited to get started!  Here are a few from our afternoon session.

      The Schut Family

The James J Hill Library in St. Paul is not necessarily the most exciting place for a toddler, but for photographing it is wonderful!  There are so many historic items there that make it especially cool.  (I am dreaming of a vintage engagement shoot there… any takers?)  Alivia did a wonderful job keeping her voice down, and doing what toddlers do best; exploring!

After some indoor shots, we headed outside to be in some of the beautiful weather!

Becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t easy. It took a lot of hard work in understanding what I wasn’t good at before understanding what I was good at. I failed a lot in the process.

We often only see the good things and success stories on social media, but getting to the point where we are confident in ourselves and our work takes time and lots of failures. Trust me. 25 years and still working at it!!
